Financial Fair Play investigation

Possible outcomes

Points deduction: no chance IMO. The PL wont want their matches devalued. That's a non-starter.

Transfer embargo: unlikely, but we can sign free transfers and do loan deals. Dyche could could still work well enough with that.

Probable outcomes

Fine

Charges dismissed

What makes you so confident?
do you think our executives and board are capable of mounting a 'robust' challenge to the accusations?

Yes. Look at City's charge sheet. It's those 'E' rule violations that they'll be looking at...the specifics.

This will take about 6 months to report back.

Just in time for the window to close and us to get our deals done.

It’s more like a trial than a report. Everton can file evidence, there will have to be exchanges of lots of documents, experts reports etc. which prolongs the process. There’s no deadlines as such. The commission sets dates as it sees fit ( see page 251 of the handbook) at a preliminary hearing. 6 months is too quick to get all the way to a final hearing.

I’m actually working for a client suing a prem club over a transfer so have looked at the handbook a bit, as it sets out the procedure for disputes.

We absolutely can get points deductions though. See W51.

Our best defence may be if the prem have previously promised not to take action-that could mean they are legally prevented from doing so now.

Take a step back and think logically.

Everton and the PL for a number of transfer windows have consulted one another on possible transfer activity.

To do so, each monthly set of accounts will have been scrutinised to provide an up to date picture of Evertons financial position.

If Everton are found to have acted improperly to such an extent of breaching regulations then what on earth does that say of the PL when you consider the partnership style arrangement in place.

The PL will be shot to pieces as an organisation and will be liable for anything that comes their way.

The passing to a commission is probably just the PL way of getting independent approval of said actions so as to exonerate us and them of any wrong doing.

My only worry would be if Everton have essentially produced a set of accounts in poor faith and our new auditors have told them such when auditing the most recent set of accounts.

But if we have then I'd delay all proceedings till we see how they deal with City who have done that very thing for 9 seasons and have faced zilch action as it stands.
Yes but there is approving accounts based on reasons given by the club which are taken in good faith. The complexion of those accounts change however if certain information comes to light which casts doubt on the veracity of the information provided by the club in the first instance. Is it possible that the club has provided a version of the truth to explain the accounts which the PL does not now believe is entirely accurate?

It’s my thought process mate.

You’re 100% spot on. We’ve worked closely, and obliged to everything they’ve asked.

It’s why we’re £50m in profit on transfers, plus the Kean fee (which may have arrived), in the past 18 months.

We’ve done everything the Premier League has asked for, so therefore there shouldn’t be a case to answer. I wonder whether this could be seen as a scaremongering exercise to stop others doing like we have done… Newcastle etc.

If they have the board could be facing criminal proceedings if they have knowingly produced a false set of accounts.

I'm not sure our Finance Director and accountants to a man would do so.

I dont think it's any coincidence the PL are in front of a select government committee next week.

Do u realise how comments like that and many many others on here just make Everton sound like a small club? Fans blaming refs, FA and luck, or lack of said, is typical of a small club. Where is the Everton that I grew up admiring gone? Way too many on here are looking for conspiracy theories and acting like you are Birmingham or Baggies fans. No club has been in the PL longer, will you grow a pair and act as fans of the stature of a club the size of Everton FC should act.
Happens at every single club.

They're not going to give a points deduction. Can you imagine SKY Sports covering an Everton game when if Everton won it wouldn;t mean anything?

The devaluation of 'the product' wont allow for it. And that goes for any PL club if it happened. It's just not an outcome that will be on the table.

At worst a fine will happen.

The only thing this 'can' do though is to undermine the relegation fight by distraction.

Be surprised if it was points, we can also point to Covid, so I doubt it would be that extreme, new ground is a good news story for the league, whole leaving Goodison another narrative, they’ll want us in the league for.

Think our fortunes are very much linked to City now, what will apply to one will likely app,y to the other, the processes will have to be seen to be parallel.

I wouldn’t rule out a transfer ban tbh for us and them. Be the right amount of seen to be punishing, same time to keeping people tuned in for the drama.

If we had sense we’d hide behind the City process, they’ll handle it well.
