Financial Fair Play investigation

Which is what FFP has always been designed to do - keep the scabs in power.

Only way to break it is with a Gulf State buyout ie Newcastle.

Shambles.

Only way the Premier League ever becomes a level playing field is with some sort of salary cap and standardised transfer budget.
Without that, the richest clubs, in the their cycles of Champions League rewards etc, are way too far clear of the rest.

Even Brighton - who are superbly run and get almost every strategic decision completely right - will struggle to close the gap to the 'big 6' and will be on the constant conveyor belt of losing their managers/players to bigger clubs.

See Newcastle are about to sign some massive new Saudi sponsor, ie the same sh*te city have been pulling for years as a way to get around FFP.

Crazy how teams like the derbys, Pompey's, readings have been fined, deducted points etc and yet the rich teams where the money isn't a problem to them can just continue to bend every possible rule

Yeah, exactly, and I wonder how long the 105 limit will stay in place, although obviously having already fallen foul of it ourselves hopefully it stays in place for other clubs who are likely to hit it in the future.

Everyone talks about the cost of relegation but there comes a point where given inflation in transfer fees and wages, and the spending race between the lower half clubs, the cost of not getting relegated comes close to being the same.

Clubs are spending fortunes just to keep pace: Southampton spent about 50mil in January and it’s done nothing for them, Wolves gambled taking on a 40m obligation that had they gone down would’ve immediately swallowed their parachute payment. The amount you need to spend just to move a bit further up the table is crazy and probably unsustainable. If we can somehow retain Pl status with net zero spending until the stadium completes it’ll be an achievement.
The 105 model was out of date when first put in place. It isn't comparable to player prices whatsoever now! It should be a percentage of that clubs revenue. i.e. 20% over spend/loses.. etc..

Yeah it seems strange that when players can cost 105 that’s still a three year permitted loss: with one career ending chalkenge to Enzo, say, Chelsea could effectively lose 105m in the space of a couple of seconds. Not that I’d lose any sleep over it, but still.

Whatever the model should be, seems to me Covid should’ve been the time to move away from this profit and lose model, that’s when everyone’s accounts got messed up with all the Covid costs and as with our claims the whole thing became a guessing game anyway.

It's like the Bundesliga, only with more clubs with that kind of revenue. That league has the same team win almost every year, we have the same teams win almost every year. It's been the same team most years lately because they have the best manager to go with solid recruitment.

And, you know, the other thing.

Wouldn't surprise me if they got off and we get slammed it really wouldn't.
There's an old saying in NCAA basketball over here - "The NCAA was so upset with Kentucky that they're going to give Cleveland State two more years' probation." Sadly, money talks.

it's a matter of time before the premier league sets up it's own platform like a Netflix of football. When that happens the top clubs will demand a bigger slice of the cake as they'll argue they attract the subscribers. The gab will just get bigger and bigger

Talksport there, that Alex Crook was on talking about City's charges.

"and oh course Everton are in a similar situation"

oh aye. 114 charges difference like. But the same thing.
It's like comparing a small mound in your back garden with Everest

Revealed: Big Everton FFP update as request rejected

The Premier League’s investigation into Everton’s finances is not expected to return its verdict until October, sources have told Football Insider.

The Toffees were referred to an independent commission in March over potential breaches of the league’s profitability and sustainability guidelines.
