Financial Fair Play investigation

A transfer ban won't come into play this summer at least, and perhaps not this season at all.

A points deduction of any magnitude is a huge threat to our survival.

I won't pretend I'm not very concerned about the implications for us.

But we have been engaged in co-operation with the PL for two seasons and will do the same this no doubt. They must have signed off on our dealings since then and last year declared no case to answer. That adds up to a strong defence before a commission, with further consolidation to come.

The new stadium will also be great for the PL brand, even if what has gone before has not been.

It's easy for the relegated clubs to bring this up and since Leeds / Burnley last year, I assume those clubs and others just decided to make a constant thing of it. That's why in my opinion the PL caved in and we were charged.

I get that net spend isn't the main issue on our FFP problems, but we still get the constant "they've spent £600m to go backwards" claptrap from every media source.
Looking at this why is it still being peddled to such a degree in the media?
Especially since we've really just went backwards in the past 2 seasons when we've sold to buy.
Nobody mentioning Southampton spending £140m (net) to finish bottom, Leeds spending £220m (past 3 seasons) to get relegated??
We're 15th in net spend over past 5 years yet not a word 😴

Bug bear of mine as well this, it's just plain lies but keeps getting peddled, turned a profit in last 2 seasons and our spending isn't as bad as others

This for me means unless we have been misleading, then it would be ethically wrong for the PL to go back on their prior stance.

Just had some Leicester fan moaning about us breaking the rules.

Let these dismal fools rage. We should be working hand in hand with the PL investigation to show why they are wrong and that there is no case. And if we are guilty, then I expect us to kick this can down the road until these rules are long changed and charges meaningless.

Agreed. I think the protesting clubs are engaged in this as a sop to their own fanbases, and secondly, to get transparency on our dealings before a commission. They do not accept what the PL as a central authority, have told them.

If we have not provided misleading information, then surely, yes, it would be unethical for the PL to charge us.

But they have charged us. Perhaps they hope this would all go away, but it's down to a three-person commission to decide.

It's very murky to me and entirely down to individual interpretation.

It appears we have broken the regulations, but the argument is in the mitigating circumstances. On the face of it, there appears to be enough for some legal eagles to make a telling argument in our favour.

I wouldn’t say it has zero impact, but there definitely is more to FFP than net spend which people seem to think is the be all and end all on here.
So it doesn't matter what you spend on players in fee's, it's just the wages to ratio of commercial income. Whichever Chairmen voted for that in the Premier League is similar to a Turkey voting for Christmas. All the commercial riches are with the top seven clubs( Newcastle now added) the rest are just playing to survive.
Just wait till they bring in the new FFP rules.

They are gonna be FUN.

Now that we have finished tossing off out of fear of relegation, some will willingly continue tossing off over fears of financial penalties. Whatever floats your boat I suppose. Even so, despite the dedication of the few, I doubt this thread will reach the high water mark of the relegation thread.

this why nothing will happen,
what city have done is 100 times worse than everton,
its all about the prem brand, they arent going to admit it is corrupt!
Indeed.

A few other clubs are also close to breaching the rule, and may have done so. A few will want the rules changed to suit their new financial situations.

.... and of course, we're still considered innocent of any allegations.
