Financial Fair Play investigation

The more I think about it the more I sympathise with the Burnley, Leeds etc. point of view. IF we are guilty and IF we get a points deduction 2 or 3 seasons after the crime that is barking mad.

It potentially would be a team like Luton that benefits from Everton cheating* to stay up at the expense of say Burnley. Makes no sporting or fairness sense. Similar if city got hit for 30 points allowing arsenal to win the league, but it was RS that were cheated* out of a title in the year of the crime.

Transfer bans for transfer transgressions is much more appropriate, with individual directors punished and banned if appropriate.

*Usual disclaimer re nothing proven yet etc.

Still for me they have plenty of chances on the pitch to stay up, the whole suggestion of any points taken off is wrong imo. Gets even worse when stories of chelsea and city. I am still not 100% what the charge is, its not about us over spending on players is something to do with stadium . So has not given us a sporting advantage on the pitch

Honestly my case would be that we've already been punished with two relegation battles and a massive fall from grace, we've already lost so much money from prize money.

Any so called Points deduction is like having a fine as well, as off course you lose money for losing places in the league - depending if it actually happened how many places we lose - sure its something like 1.5 mil or so a place - (Sticking to a Fine Only)

Punishments always come long after the crime though, there’s no getting round that. I get why fans of those teams would be frustrated but I don’t see what the legal issue would be when it’s simply how punishment works- it would be like teams Toney scored against last season while the PL were deciding on his ban trying to get those goals disallowed retrospectively. You can’t rewrite history.

I agree on your point about punishment, IF we are guilt of huge overspending then, as problematic as it would be to us, a transfer ban seems the most logical.

Unfortunately, the problem with the "we've suffered enough," argument is that a club like Newcastle will look at it and take the lesson "overspend wisely, not poorly" - and all will be good.

I can't see why someone hasn't challenged the whole FFP thing in the high courts for restriction of business.
If an engineering company wanted to expand and recruit new employees, it's nothing to do with anyone else (until / unless they go into administration).
In my opinion, City will never get a points deduction, they will drag it through various courts until it suits them to pay a fine.
Have we still got anyone that gives a stuff about us to fight our corner once the verdict is out there?

…sadly, most clubs spend lots of money to improve. We spent lots of money and got worst.

For me, the irony of FFP is money isn’t a guarantee of success.

Spending too much on the stadium, training ground, marketing, lawnmowers means less to spend on players whilst staying within the limits. Everything can be brought back to on field spend.

If it is this mythical “tax issue relating to a stadium loan”, if we had accounted for it properly for P&S, our losses may have been greater, therefore we sell Pickford 2 years ago in January and Burnley stay up.
