Fireworks, and dogs

Definitely need keeping to organised displays only, they go on for hours with these idiots.

Always feel for the animals, although my neighbours cat doesn’t seem to give a toss.

The older of my 2 dogs (been happening for 7 years now) shakes uncontrollably and is inconsolable, we’ve tried everything to help him but for the last 4 years we pay the vet £60 a time to dope him up (2 days max) but the issue is selfish bellends letting them off past midnight starting from November 1st until next weekend.
It’s not just animals, there are more than a few ex army/navy/raf who suffer from ptsd that nobody thinks about either.

Mate next year book a little cabin somewhere rural?

Yes, but what about my family? It’s a good idea that we did do a few years ago, we came back on the 7th and people were still setting them off. My 8 year old daughter has school, a night or 2 would cost more than my dog doing his best Jeffrey Lebowski impression for 2 days. We cope now and so does our dog, it was heartbreaking to see him those first few years and being helpless to console him though.

Anybody else hate this week, either because fireworks alone are annoying, or because they have a dog who spends the week stressed out, or because they live next to said dog who doesn't cease in its yapping?
My dog seems mostly fine, apart from the whistle ones (whatever they are called). but its not just this week. these fireworks go on and on for many weeks earlier. ive heard them in Aug/sep and oct. and at stupid times like 2am , 8am -someone somewhere even did a few at 8.30am today etc. if you have a dog that is scared how would you know someone will set one off in August

Knowing where you live I'm guessing he just thinks the local lids are having a shootout by the shops lol

None of you are arsed about scary noises terrifying the dog when you're shagging your missus and you lock the dog outside the bedroom. The poor thing is thinking its owners are getting murdered behind that door and there's nothing it can do to save you.
Come on, fireworks can go on all night, but the dog can wait a few minutes/seconds outside a door.

Cats this week, once again proving how superior they are to dogs.

Dogs get scared by it, Cats embrace it. Ours was literally sat by the window watching them tonight, then scooted outside for some fresh gunpowder-filled air.

A loud bang goes off in the street outside. You look out of the window. There's no one there.

A feeling of fear is generated - especially among the old and isolated. And pets.

That's not good, is it? So why are these things on sale to the public?

No amount of safeguards can stop yobs from getting hold of fireworks. Ban them for heavens sake and to hell with Guy Fawkes. He's had a good run.

As for "organised displays" I am looking out over the whole of south-west Edinburgh from a top flat in the Glasgow road and all I can hear is the pop pop of bangers. No spectacular displays lighting up the night.

Ban them.
