FIRST FEMALE PL REFEREE.

The difference with using sex/gender, race, religion as the "insult" as opposed to those you mention is the associated history of discrimination and abuse tied to those characteristics.

We (hopefully!) wouldn't accept a black ref receiving abuse that was racial in nature so shouldn't tolerate abuse that's gender based.

She may be complete crap or the best ref every. Neither will have anything to do with her gender.
Gender should be immaterial.

If she doesn't get dogs abuse from the crowd, players and managers* then where's the equality? Is it misogyny if she's treated any differently to male refs? Even if that difference is "more nicely"? It would follow, logically, that if people were then to abuse male referees more than female ones, then those people would be misandrists. What a can of worms.

Hope she does well.

* speaking as a ref for school matches over many decades, I don't approve of giving any refs abuse. That doesn't stop me muttering angrily about the crooks who so often ref Everton games.

Never said she should be treated with kids gloves.
Just have a go at her without resorting to any of her refereeing deficits being due to her gender.

It’s fine to treat her differently because she’s a woman.

Would like to think the players will think twice before screaming in her face or hounding her like they do the male refs.

Good luck to her. The standard of officiating in the Premier League is atrocious and VAR has only made it worse.
