Ford 1.0L EcoBoost engine problems

I think the issue is the actual belt tensioner mate. If they do change the belt ensure the tensioner is swapped out too or it's a waste of time.
Thanks .. I think its also to do with the belt itself decaying and bits getting into other parts that it shouldn't so I'm going to have a list of questions for them about what the are precisely going to do. If I'm not happy or convinced then WeBuyAnyCar or similar might be getting a call who have already offered £4000.

Wait til you find out you don't need a Hemi/V12 in a lawnmower and 1/1.2/1.4L engines are good enough for smaller cars.
Its not about that, modern engines are just better.

When I got my new car, which was about 3/4 years ago I was going from a 1.6 Astra and all the engines were 1.2, I was determined that I needed a 1.4 Turbo, but I took a 1.2 for a spin and it was perfectly fine, plus the wife said I couldnt have a Turbo. :(

Yes mate, I believe it's an internal wet belt system and runs in the oil unlike the traditional method of it being outside the engine, no idea why though but makes the job tougher for a home mechanic.

Anyone here own a Ford 1.0L EcoBoost or know about the issue?

We just ran into problems with a Focus we bought new in 2017. Full service history, never missed. Never been driven hard. All of a sudden the Oil Light comes on & we discover it’s a known problem with Recalls in US, but not in UK.

I’d be interested to know if anyone else has had similar problems?

Or if you have one of these or know anyone who does, it’s worth knowing about this issue.

My wife has one and she had same or similar problem a few years ago. Ford denied any issues and told her it was a turbo issue. Several hundred quid later she broke down again and a mechanic stopped. He told her exactly what the issue was and that Ford had to fix it and it was a recall issue. They eventually did but wasn't easy. Shower of [Poor language removed]

I assume it was under manufacurers warrany mate?

I've just had an idea whilst on this thread. I'm going to ask the Ford dealership the trade in price on my ecoboost Fiesta to put towards another of their cars. The £1800 quote is majority labour costs so they wont save on that if they have to do it on a trade in. I can then see how that compares to WeBuyAnyCar etc

Is it just the oil light on or are there other symptoms you experienced?

Well it’s only the oil light so far, but when we took it in, the garage said “not another one….” & drew our attention to this issue.

It’s booked in on Thursday, so will know the full extent then. This thread is about warning others, because we had no idea until too late.

Hmm, well if you oil level looks ok on your dipstick and you still have the "oil light" then i'd say it doesn't look good.

A lot of drivers don't realise the "oil light" is actually a low oil pressure indication, rather than oil level. If your levels are good and you have the light then issues could be pump failure, pressure sensor failure, or system blockage due to foreign objects (which sounds consistent with the excessive timing chain wear issue)

I don't know what the issue is with Fords, but in the VW/Audi engines that run at 1L or 1.2L (they have their own issues) it's down to the high heat they run at.

I've had two Audis, and both have had issues with oil, even though they're serviced each year and the engine oil is good quality.

With one, I was pretty much told to go and sell it as quick as I could because the engine was on the way out way before 100,000 miles.

I jumped from a jeep to my 1.6L diesel peugeot 308 station wagon, apparently a boring underpowered engine at only 100 bhp.

Dunno, does great mileage at highway speeds, only exceeds 6L/100km (47mpg apparently for the USA peoples) if I drive with 160km+, which it also handles fine by the by. City driving or cruising 120-140km/h is 4L/100km or less.

Do I want a huge engined boat of a vehicle again? Yeah, it was fun, it goes vroom. Do I need one, seeing as I live in Europe? Nah - traffic with a station wagon currently is hell, driving 3cm away from parked cars either side, I don't think an Escalade (or my old Jeep) would've fit there lol

Yeah, driving in rush hour these days it's faster walking, so I am kinda glad I didn't get a vroom vroom.

You could, but two liters always felt like the responsiveness floor I'm willing to put up with. (Double the minimum displacement if you're my ex.)

I do get that urban streets and the freeway concrete jungle I live in over here are different propositions.
