Ford 1.0L EcoBoost engine problems

Well it’s only the oil light so far, but when we took it in, the garage said “not another one….” & drew our attention to this issue.

It’s booked in on Thursday, so will know the full extent then. This thread is about warning others, because we had no idea until too late.
This is usually to do with the wet belt belt decaying and the particles blocking up the oil pick up pipe in the sump. The oil pressure at the top of the engine drops and triggers the low oil pressure warning.

You could, but two liters always felt like the responsiveness floor I'm willing to put up with. (Double the minimum displacement if you're my ex.)

I do get that urban streets and the freeway concrete jungle I live in over here are different propositions.
I think forced induction becoming common on production cars was the game changer for lower capacity vehicles. You can boost most motors to give what V8's did a short while ago.

lol

I mean I drive highway as well, never had a single issue with the current car or the previous Fiat Bravo 1.4 petrol.

Maybe if you didn't make every car to be a landboat and actually considered dynamics you'd have a better time of it. In fact we're seeing it finally happen for US cars, albeit almost 30 years later than the rest of the world.

Must admit I'm not quite convinced by chucking 1.0ltr 3 cylinders in mid-sized cars. Driven a few hire cars with them in (Fords, VW, Skoda, Hyundai) and they're alright but feel underpowered. Really notice the difference when I get into my own car.

Yeah, there's the issue right there. I said "car," not "pregnant roller skate."
Something something Americans and being obese etc.
I think we can set the sniping aside and agree on this one.
Snipes, claims no more sniping. Hmmmmmmm lol

Nah not saying it's some amazingly powered machine or something daft, it's a daily driver/utility car, it does its job, it drives you A to B in those cases - there's a reason they're called an econobox. The 3cyl experiment is a bit daft and I don't like it personally but they've improved as of late and they're never used in mid-sized cars anyway - mostly city/compacts, which makes total sense as you're going after fuel economy, rather than "can I haul a horse in the boot?".

I've had a 3cyl i10 and it's not the best thing in the world and you're not breaking any records, but getting you to places it will do reliably enough. For what it's worth the VAG turbocharged 1L with the 115 or so hp is a quite decent drive unless you want to race.

That said, Ford ecoboost's early reputation is that of a grenade, but they seem to have fixed it in the last iteration(s) - a friend of mine had one of those for work and it was in the shop for CEL-related incidents quite often, but then again, work car so he's probably redlining it all the time anyway lol

Depends what you mean by city cars/compacts. Don't like them in stuff like a Focus, I30, Golf, Leon, Octavia etc. Fine for the B segment (Fiesta, I20, Polo size). The latter are grand around town, really economical, but put them on a motorway, urgh. The C section (Focus etc) really don't do well at speed imho.

The 1.5tsi is a far better proposition for that, for example. Or a diesel. Hybrids can 'koff as well, so many Toyotas dawdling along the M6 at 55mph because the drivers know as soon as they go faster they drink fuel. In the middle lane if they're an uber.

Anyway, don't buy a Ford is all anyone needs to know.

i10, Citigo/up/Ibiza/a1/a3, as much as people hate it - Golf, Focus (not the plus or estate variants obvs), Fiesta - base packages/cheapest versions are meant to be the most economy of economy cars. Won't set the world alight but it'll get you around town and to work and a bit more. I've had a few economy cars and they're also fun to drive, turbos make it so that you can upgrade a bit and it gets a bit more powerful, which is easily felt on a small and light chassis.

For Europe we obviously have the diesels where displacement isn't the main thing really, there's a reason the 1.9TDi tuning scene is insane.

Never Ford though.
