Former Everton Centre Forward Duncan Ferguson steps into management.....

That was some set up at Wembley but couldn't believe when I saw @maccavennie Mam kick in the security door, jump the turnstiles, stick the head on a security guard and dissappear into Section A without a ticket in sight. Have to admire her determination to see the coasters play, no matter what #TrueFan
Shame she was 3 days late. Should lay of the Lambrini

AFC Fylde vs Wigan Athletic

=Wigan result.webp

Fylde needed a win to close the gap on the teams above, a loss today will see them remain five points adrift of the play-off places making it difficult to reach this season. Ferguson made a change bringing in Andy Hasler for Vince Bytheway and Mark Morton was in at right back. It was a good opening few minutes to Fylde, the midfield pushed forward with Jones on the left to put Wigan under pressure, Wilson played a great ball into the box for Jones and he struck the post with a left footed shot. Andy Hasler was caught in possession and Rutter managed to find Sarpong-Amamoo in the box who knocked it in past Dube to give them the lead. Wigan have a corner on 61 minutes, Thomas sent the ball into the six yard box, Macrae headed away, Feeney went in half hearted on a challenge with Thomas who picked up the loose ball, put it back into the six yard box and Rutter headed into the corner, 2-0. Bytheway entered the game with just over 20 minutes to play, With 18 minutes left James Blake created a solo piece of magic, he shrugged off Wilson and launched a shot into the back of the net from 25 yards out. What a strike, 3-0. Fylde had a chance to grab one back, Henderson turning the defence inside out but struck the post on 80 minutes. Mark Morton was having a terrible game and Ferguson handed a debut to 16 year old defender Martyn Wilcox who went to right back. Fylde were out of sorts at the back and Sarpong-Amamoo found former Fylde winger Callum Simpson who made it four with a great finish into the bottom corner. Fylde are in a mess and this season could not come to an end quick enough for The Coasters.

DF: It was a gutless display, no fight, no ambition, nothing. I think we have to acknowledge we have found our level in League One, we are a team comfortable of finishing around the play-offs but we aren't good enough to go up. It's a problem that will take many years to fix if bigger teams keep taking our players. If we went up, we would come straight back down, it's a massive jump to The Championship, there is a gulf in quality. Look at Sunderland, they went up a few seasons ago and came straight back down and this is a big club! What chance do we have?

10th place Charlton could overtake Fylde if they win today and it would surely spell the end of their hopes of play-offs if they did. Ferguson made changes with Mark Morton out of the side and Euan Henderson was dropped to the bench for recent poor performances. John Jones was suspended for the next two games after collecting his tenth yellow card of the season against Wigan. Tyrone O'Neill was back in the team and started up front. Charlton got the ball into the box on 24 minutes, Stockbridge went in to win the ball with a standing tackle but was quite firm in the challenge, the referee blew the whistle and gave the penalty! A contentious decision! Chris Rice put the ball down, took his run up and kept it low beating Dube to make it 1-0 to Charlton. Henderson was brought on with 30 minutes to go to to aid the attack replacing Donnelly. 67 minutes gone, Bytheway ran forward at speed, got into the box but lost it to a last ditch tackle, Henderson came running in towards the loose ball and slotted to equalise! Great finish from Henderson! Ten minutes to go, Henderson played the ball forward for O'Neill but he lost out to Shugar, he got down the right side and crossed to the far post, James Fitton was there on cue to put Charlton 2-1 in front. Just when it looked Fylde were on top in this game and the second goal was a suffocating blow. Charlton move ahead of Fylde who have now dropped to 9th.

AFC Fylde vs Crewe Alexandra

=Crewe result.webp

It was another must-win game for Fylde and it was certainly expected with the visit of rockbottom Crewe the visitors to Mill Farm. Fylde would require the teams above tro drop points over the remaining three games to stand a chance of play-offs now. Henderson was back in the starting lineup after coming on as a sub in the defeat to Charlton last weekend. The first half was frustrating, neither side able to find the breakthrough, the fans grew increasingly worried at the lack of action and opportunity. The second half started much better and Greg Taylor was finding plenty of space on the lef to get crosses in, the experienced full back found Tyrone O'Neill in the box and he headed towards goal but it was kept out by the keeper. The deadlock was finally broken on 75 minutes and it was for the home side, Patrick Uttridge got the free-kick around the wall and into the net! Just what Fylde needed to ease the tension! It was a nervy last ten minutes for Fylde, Crewe played without pressure and were having a real go, Dube was on hand to make a good save and the defence kept their organisation. Fylde kept the ball well in stoppage time and saw out thisd much needed victory! Bury were beaten at Colchester and Bolton lost 4-3 to Wrexham in thre 93rd minute giving Fylde a chance of sneaking into the play-offs if results go their way in the final two games and they win both of theirs.

Two games to play and Fylde sit three points off the play-offs. They would require points to be dropped by Bury and Fleetwood in order to have a chance of progressing but would have to take 6 points from their next two games to give them the best possible chance.

Rochdale vs AFC Fylde

=Rochdale result.webp

After 5 months out with a damaged spine and fears he may never play football again, Sam Gibson was named on the subsitutes bench in what Duncan Ferguson has hailed as a miracle recovery. The defender has worked hard during training recently and followed his rehabilitation programme to be back before the end of the current season. It's a crucial match for Fylde and all eyes will be on Bury vs Fleetwood match today. It was all Fylde in the first 5 minutes, Bytheway found Henderson in the box and Fylde's leading scorer headed just wide on 5 minutes. Fylde were playing like their old selves with flair and freedom, it seemed the goal was only a matter of time against this defensive Rochdale side. Jordan Wilson got it wide to Bytheway and he sent in a driven cross to the near post, O'Neill was there with a powerful header which the keeper tried to stop but it went in, 1-0! Patrick Uttridge pulled up on 57 minutes with a tight hamstring and was replaced by Ellis McKimm-Forster. Josh Ferguson was on for Hutson and Duncan Ferguson wanted him to support the midfield in the final 20 minutes. Fylde were playing great attacking football and had their fair share of putting this game to bed. Bytheway was giving the defence a tough time in the final third. It's a great win for Fylde here in Rochdale. How did it go at Bury and Bolton today?
