The penultimate game of the season and Euan Henderson spoke up Fylde's chances of play-offs stating the team will do all they can to finish the season strongly and see what happens on 30th April. Chris Moffatt was back from injury and made the bench. Fylde started the game positively and Bytheway was vital in the players keeping their heads. He passed the ball to Carey who played it back to him and he curled it into the bottom left corner from the edge of the box on 20 minutes! A few minutes later Rotherham wanted to have their say on matters and Thomas Jackson finished nicely from Rayson-Randles ball in to the box to equalise. Grant Thomas seemed determined to restore the lead but his header from Preece's corner went wide. Chris Moffatt came on for Nick Kennerdale on 71 minutes but time was running out for Fylde. Dan Carey went for goal and Greg Taylor pulled off a great save to deny him. Moffatt and Carey exchange passes and Moffatt crosses in for Thomas who heads wide once again. Rayson-Randle took the corner for Rotherham with ten minutes to go, Thompson headed for goal and Hakeem blocked it on the line, Kieffer got there first and knocked it in to give Rotherham the lead. Fylde's last chance fell to Dan Carey but it was easy for Taylor to claim and it's Rotherham who get the result today and bring an end to Fylde's season. It's disappoiting for Fylde but they threw so many games away inside the last ten minutes. 15 goals were conceded in the last ten minutes this season and is a weakness for Fylde.

EH: It was always an outside possibility in the final few weeks of the season and we done well to stay in with a chance but it was always unlikely we were going to make it. We tried our best and got some positive results but the competition was fierce and we gave it our best shot. We have our plans for next season and given the full season, I feel I can improve on this one. We were struggling at the bottom when myself and Dunc came in so to be within a shout of promotion shows how well we have all worked. Duncan will finally retire from football next month and I have learnt so much from him in the last two years, I'm confident I can continue the big man's blueprint and fulfil my dream of getting this club into the top flight. It might sound crazy but I want the best for Fylde and what is stopping us? We came from the sixth tier of English football! Next season is big, we have our transfer targets and we know where we need improvement. To the supporters, please be with us next week at Crewe, we want to finish strong and show you all what is to come next season.

Crewe Alexandra vs AFC Fylde
30th April 2039

=Crewe result.png

The last game of the 2038/39 campaign and Henderson made some team changes. Anthony Barrett broke his toe this week in training and was sidelined for two months. Yap-Sam came in for Barrett and Dale Alexander started at left back. Moffatt, Greene and Hill all started in the attacking positions behind Striker Grant Thomas. Fylde didn't make the intended start they wanted and Hilton played in the corner which was cleared by Yap-Sam but Oscar Hill hit a sweet volley into the back of the net on 22 minutes. Dale Alexander's poor clearance was picked up by Powell and he crossed into the box so Hilton could get on the scoresheet with a leaping header. 2-0 to Crewe on the stroke of half-time. Stuart Greene went off at half-time for Vince Bytheway. Dan Carey went down injured just after the restart so Jake Thompson replaced him. With just under 20 minutes to go it was looking like a game to forget for Fylde but Jay Preece converted the free-kick from 25 yards, his second one of the season to grab a goal back! Bytheway passed to Moffatt on his left and he crossed into the box, Grant Thomas lined it up with his right foot and made it 2-2! Three minutes later Alexander crossed from the left, Johnson save it from going out of play and cut it back to Thomas to score his second and make it 3-2 to Fylde! A fantastic turnaround! Oscar Hill tried a long range effort which Breacker done well to tip over the bar in stoppage time. Jay Preece's long kick towards the Crewe keeper was enough to end this one and what a comeback from Fylde who were 2-0 down at half-time. It wasn't the game where character and fight was needed but if that second half is anything to by, Fylde could be in for a good season next season.
EH: Great win, although it's a chance for me to look at the team and the system we use, I can take things forward into pre-season butr first we need to take a break and just settle down on what has been a dramatic season for us. I'm proud of the lads and we have a talented squad. So many will be targets for bigger clubs and we have to do what's right for the club. The window will be a busy one for us and we'll work hard to make sure we start the season fully prepared. We can't be hard on ourselves, we were staring at relegation earlier in the season and we have finished emphatically. The lads should all be really proud of themselves.

I'm only leaving Northern Ireland now but hope to be back home before next season starts. Can't bring the harpoon on a plane and since that whole Brexit thing a few years back when they built the big wall down the middle of the Irish Sea to stop low grade EU products being transported to the UK via ships, its much harder to get a tractor and a harpoon home, but I have a plan and I hope to wash up on Blackpool beach in the next three weeks.
Happy to bring back any EU products anyone wants, just let me know
