Rotherham United vs AFC Fylde
23rd April 2039
The penultimate game of the season and Euan Henderson spoke up Fylde's chances of play-offs stating the team will do all they can to finish the season strongly and see what happens on 30th April. Chris Moffatt was back from injury and made the bench. Fylde started the game positively and Bytheway was vital in the players keeping their heads. He passed the ball to Carey who played it back to him and he curled it into the bottom left corner from the edge of the box on 20 minutes! A few minutes later Rotherham wanted to have their say on matters and Thomas Jackson finished nicely from Rayson-Randles ball in to the box to equalise. Grant Thomas seemed determined to restore the lead but his header from Preece's corner went wide. Chris Moffatt came on for Nick Kennerdale on 71 minutes but time was running out for Fylde. Dan Carey went for goal and Greg Taylor pulled off a great save to deny him. Moffatt and Carey exchange passes and Moffatt crosses in for Thomas who heads wide once again. Rayson-Randle took the corner for Rotherham with ten minutes to go, Thompson headed for goal and Hakeem blocked it on the line, Kieffer got there first and knocked it in to give Rotherham the lead. Fylde's last chance fell to Dan Carey but it was easy for Taylor to claim and it's Rotherham who get the result today and bring an end to Fylde's season. It's disappoiting for Fylde but they threw so many games away inside the last ten minutes. 15 goals were conceded in the last ten minutes this season and is a weakness for Fylde.
EH: It was always an outside possibility in the final few weeks of the season and we done well to stay in with a chance but it was always unlikely we were going to make it. We tried our best and got some positive results but the competition was fierce and we gave it our best shot. We have our plans for next season and given the full season, I feel I can improve on this one. We were struggling at the bottom when myself and Dunc came in so to be within a shout of promotion shows how well we have all worked. Duncan will finally retire from football next month and I have learnt so much from him in the last two years, I'm confident I can continue the big man's blueprint and fulfil my dream of getting this club into the top flight. It might sound crazy but I want the best for Fylde and what is stopping us? We came from the sixth tier of English football! Next season is big, we have our transfer targets and we know where we need improvement. To the supporters, please be with us next week at Crewe, we want to finish strong and show you all what is to come next season.
