Goodison Park, The Grand Old Lady, Archibald Leitch, Goodison Road, Gwladys Street. The legends, the titles, the trophies, the history and all the memories rolled into one. The last ever football match at this iconic stadium. Everton Football Club vs Brighton & Hove Albion. Walking down Goodison Road for one last time, no more pre-match pints in The Winslow, it all ends here on 18th May 2025. Duncan Ferguson has the honour to manage this Everton side who will be led out one last time by James Tarkowski. The stadium filled up early as supporters took every moment in, cherishing each second as the teams came out for their final pre-match warm up. It was loud, just like Goodison remembers from yeasrs gone by. The stadium was full in plenty of time prior to kick off and those sirens played one last time. You could not hear yourself think, you could not hear Z Cars over the tannoy as those final drums hit. The crowd was the best it had been in living memory and the players were hyped up, ready to perform. The team was out and ready for their final game inside the great stadium. Beto got us underway and the noise levels rose, James Garner whipped the free-kick into the box on 12 minutes and Patterson couldn't get his header on target. James Garner found Roony on the right and he played it direct in front of Beto, he went round the keeper and knocked it into the net! The flag went up on the far side, Beto was marginally offside. Everton stayed in control and Onana played it wide to Roony who went past Turns, his shot was blocked and cleared. Garner once again, forward ball to Roony who brought in McNeil, Onana took it off him and played it to Patterson who lined up the shot with his left foot on the edge of the box and Verbruggen who was off his line back peddled to tip it over the bar. Rodriguez crossed in, Lamptey cleared with the header, Branthwaite got up for the bicycle kick but it went wide. Everton were dominant but yet to score, Rodriguez played the free-kick on 40 minutes to the far post, Tarkowski knocked it inside the six yard box and Beto done what he does best and knocked it in! Everton lead! The referee is looking into it with VAR, was Tarkowski offside? No! The goal stands! Everton go into half-time in front and are looking good. 53 minutes on the clock, Mykolenko had the ball on the left and sent an ambitous ball into the box, Roony looked to gert up for it and back off Turns to knock it under the arm of Verbruggen, 2-0! Roony went straight over to the Gwlayds Street and there was pandemonium! Everton were not done and the fans were loving the attacking display, Garner came forward into the box and tried the cross but it was blocked, Roony retrieved it quickly and set up Garner who curled into the left corner! 3-0! McNeil had worked hard down the left side and had given it everything so on 60 minutes he was replaced to a standing ovation by Moleiro. Rodriguez took the corner playing it to the edge of the box for Roony who stepped into the area and saw his shot just go over the bar, good effort. Beto was limping on the 80 minute mark so he came off to a standing ovation for Vardy. Beto, who will finish the season on 22 league goals, what a season for the Striker. Sarmiento got the ball inside the box with a chance to pull a goal back for Brighton and Pickford made a great save tipping it wide. Idrissa Gueye came on for stoppage time, it could be his last appearance in an Everton shirt with his contract expiring in the summer. We're by far the grestest team rang around the stadium as the tears began to flow from the supporters. Mitoma came down the left and put in a low cross which was converted by Mazilu to pull a goal back for Brighton. No clean sheet for Pickford today. Garner took a long range effort from 25 yards and it struck the outside of the post and went out, good effort. A few minutes later Mykolenko was up the pitch and put in another great cross for Roony to head in at the back post, 4-1! Roony having his best game in a blue shirt! Mazilo took a last shot for Brighton which was saved by Pickford and he got the credit he deserved for a top notch performance making some really good saves. Mitoma tried again for Brighton and his cross was headed away by Vardy and that's it! The last match at Goodison Park is over and Everton have won 4-1! What an incredible performance from The Toffees! The fans are loving every minute of this and nobody will be leaving their seat! Duncan Ferguson came on to the pitch and the players took in a lap of appreciation to thank the supporters for their support for the final season at Goodison. What a game and what a way to finish the season! Goodison Park will close on a high after an emphatic performance! After the match had finished there was time for a special moment. The Z Cars theme played for one last time and former players Neville Southall, Derek Mountfield, Pat Van Den Hauwe, Kevin Ratcliffe, Gary Stevens, Peter Reid, Paul Bracewell, Adrian Heath, Trevor Steven, Graeme Sharp, Andy Gray, Bob Latchford, Colin Harvey, Leighton Baines, Tony Hibbert, Tim Cahill, Seamus Coleman, Tim Howard, Kevin Richardson, Dave Watson, Joe Parkinson and Duncan Ferguson. Current manager and former player Duncan Ferguson took the microphone:
"Evertonians, on behalf of everyone here, thank you for your continued support. Thank you for being here, year after year and providing that phenomenal support that has saw this football club win so many honours. You have been here through the good and the bad, the highs and the lows and without you, this football club would not exist. Today we close the door on this iconic football stadium that has witnessed so much history and glory and we move on to our new stadium at Bramley Moore. I know this season has not gone the way we wanted it and we, as Evertonians expect more. I expect more and we have high standards, we are Everton. As manager, I thank you for being behind me and nobody wants success more than I do. Each season I want us to keep getting better. We have a lot of talent at this football club and they are still young, the plan is to keep this group of players together and build something special. We are a hungry team who want to win trophies, we can only do that with you by our side as we move into our new home. Once again, thank you for everything and Up The Toffees!"
