Everton travelled to Leeds for a midweek fixture against the side in 19th place. It was Ange Postecoglou's first game back in football management after being sacked by Spurs in May, taking over from previous manager Daniel Farke. Everton took the same starting XI that dismantled Brighton Jack Harrison started for Leeds against Everton with Wilfried Gnonto up top. Elland Road had a new found energy as they began like under Postecoglou but in-form Everton will have something to say. Just under 2 minutes in and Patterson found Cham with the throw-in adjacent to the Leeds area, he sent it across low to the far post and Moleiro was there to knock it in, 1-0 to Everton! Leeds bubble burst after 2 minutes! Leeds hit back a few minutes later and it was the through ball that opened Everton up from Wober to find Sinisterra to score from inside the box into the right corner, 1-1 and the white scarves are back out. Leeds were pressing high up the pitch and it was working well, Harrison took it down and beat Mykolenko, he played it through for Gnonto and he only had Pickford to beat to make it 2-1, easy. Everton getting caught out here. There's a possibility for offside, VAR took a look and it was ruled out. Gnonto was well offside. Three minutes until half-time and Onana's forward pass to Rodriguez was cut out, Leeds came forward and it was played into the box for Gnonto who was being harried out of play by Branthwaite but it looked as though Branthwaite put a foot in and caught Gnonto and the referee awarded the penalty. It was a very tight call and looked minimal. Pickford was out of his goal arguing the decision but VAR confirmed it. Wober against Pickford, Pickford guessed the right way but couldn't stop it from going above his hands, Leeds 2-1 up before half-time. Ferguson made two changes at half-time, Branthwaite came off for Godfrey and Patterson came off for Maffeo. Jack Harrison was replaced by Almiron for Leeds. Rodriguez played it Moleiro who came into the area on 57 minutes he played it into Gonzalez but his first time shot was turned away by Meslier. Ferguson made his final three changes with 30 minutes to go, Okoronkwo replaced Cham on the right, Onana went off for Zubeldia and Guler came on for Rodriguez. Everton got on the ball and looked more calm, Leeds kept pressing but Everton passed it around well, Okoronkwo lobbed it into the area but it was headed away by Wober, Guler kept it alive on the near side and passed to Mykoenko who threaded it back through for Guler to level, 2-2! Hang on, the flag went up, Guler was offside. VAR took a few minutes with this one, it was very tight and surely the wrong deicison has been made? VAR confirmed the offside but Ferguson was furious with the fourth official. Moleiro went for goal from 25 yards and Meslier performed a great acrobatic save to deny him. Leeds had a late corner taken by Sinisterra, he found the head of Gray at the near post and Pickford pushed it away. No time left for Everton to have another chance and it's defeat at Elland Road against a hard working Leeds United side under new manager Ange Postecoglou. Everton miss a chance to go fourth and will feel hard done by after Arder Guler's second half strike was ruled out.

DF: The goal should have stood, there was nothing wrong with it. Guler was onside and I don't see how this has been ruled out. Officials have to get these decisions right and it's cost us a point on a tricky night.

Lineup vs Crystal Palace.webp

=Crystal Palace result.webp

7th against 8th in a very tough fixture for both teams. A Crystal Palace win will close the gap on Everton to two points hence the importance to both sides in this evening's live encounter. Ferguson stated there would be some rotation so it was no surprise when there was changes, although changing the back four wasn't expected. Roughan, Godfrey, Zubelida and Maffeo all started and James Garner returned to midfield after a 3 week injury. It was also good news to see Beto back on the bench after a recent injury. The game started off slow but Palace found a way down the right with Olise and Pickford came to the rescure twice stopping shots from Sorloth to keep the score at 0-0. Palace got forward in numbers with support from Locko on the left and he found Eze in the centre who had space to shoot and he made it 1-0 on 44 minutes. Roughan was up against it with Olise, he tackled but Olise stayed on his feet and got to the ball to put it across the box, Cham went in hard on Eze and the referee awarded Crystal Palace a penalty on 58 minutes which could seal the game for the home side. Before the spot kick was taken, Ferguson made two changes bringing on Rodriguez and Samardzic for Guler and Garner. Eze took the kick and put it wide of the post to the disappointment of the Palace fans, terrible kick. Roughan came off after a torrid time against Olise, Mykolenko was his replacement. Beto was given the last 20 minutes replacing Cham and Gonzalez went to the right. Rodriguez played it back to Zubeldia on 85 minutes, he sent it down the right for Gonzales who got to the byline and sent it in for Beto to be denied by Henderson from close range. Gonzalez tried again from the right side as the match went into stoppage time but it was easy for Dean Henderson and Palace could relax as they were almost over the line. The whistle was blown and it was a second consecutive defeat for Everton. They just struggled and looked to be overpowered from the off. With an important cup quarter-final coming up, they need to get their acts together.

League Cup Quarter Final
16th December 2025

Lineup vs Fulham.webp

=Fulham result.webp

A strong side was selected for the first Quarter Final at Bramley Moore. Zubeldia played in midfield replacing Onana and Guler started on the right side with Beto returning to the starting lineup. Gonzalez started on the left and Moleiro was dropped to the bench. Wayne Rooney was having a goof season so far, last eight of the League Cup and third place in The Championship. Ferguson and Rooney embraced before kick-off with smiles and a hug as the two former Everton Centre Forwards came head to head once again. Beto played in Garner on 5 minutes and he played it back to Beto but he shot over the bar, first real chance for both sides. There wasn't a lot to be excited about so far with not a lot of opportuntiies for either side. Gonzalez was struggling with a foot injury so it was no surprise when he was replaced at half-time by Moleiro. Samardzic came on for Zubeldia with 30 minutes to go. Fulham had a great chance on 67 minutes when Mykolenko was pulled out of position and Tete played it into Decordova-Reid and he missed a great chance on a plate putting the shot wide from close range. Okoronkwo came on for Beto for the last 20 minutes. Fulham have been brilliant tonight and really fought hard for every ball making it difficult for Everton. Everton had a throw in the Fulham half near the corner flag and Mykolenko threw it to Rodriguez who was fouled by Quaresma but was it inside the box? It looked like it was on the line but VAR will review and decide if it's a free-kick or a penalty in the 91st minute. No penalty is the decision! Fulham defended the free-kick and the game went to penalties after 90 minutes. Harry Wilson was up first for Fulham and he went down the middle making it easy for Pickford to save! James Rodriguez took the first for Everton and found the bottom left corner with power! Stansfield sent Pickfords the wrong way with a cool penalty and Guler's penalty was saved putting Fulham back in the game! Decordova-Reid took the third spot kick and Pickford pushed it away! Samardzic's was also saved and kept out by Rajkovic. Palhinha blasted into the bottom left corner leaving Pickford reaching making it 2-1 and James Garner went down the middle sending the keeper right to make it 2-2 going into the 5th kick. Dennis Cirkin could be the one to help Fulham into the semi-final but Pickford went right and kept it out! It's a big chance for Moleiro to send Everton into the last four.....he took a few steps forward and the power was enough to beat Rajkovic and Everton into their first semi-final since 2016! Excellent stuff! Not the best performance but they got the job done and it's a boost to confidence after some poor performances recently! Everton through!

DF: It wasn't a good performance and we appear nervous on the pitch. I don't know where that has come from because we have looked so sharp, but we seem to be worried about the other team being in possession. Fulham were brilliant and they could have won the game tonight, I think they were the better team and Rooney is really showing everyone what he can do at management level. I'm pleased to be in the final four, whoever we get over two legs we have to make it hard for them, especially at home, that's where we have to go and win the tie.
