Could someone page a person in the know over to this thread please? I have a funny feeling I know what the answer will be (probably hello ban hammer) however from looking at the publically available information the forum provides about the setup it seems the current provider; which appears to provide managed hosting hasnt configured the server to handle load in remotely the best way possible. Probably wants to push more expensive/bigger hosting packages in lieu of a smart set up. A shame really.
In case anyone is interested I looked at the http headers and saw a certain bit of software mentioned. I am presuming that its setup in a fairly default way since the website totally died under heavy load last night. Then I looked at the reverse host names of machines/switches on the hops before I reach this website and did some poking around those websites. Deduced some information and decided to post after noting last night that this place didnt survive the transfer window closing.
Actually nopeI bill all web hosting monthly in arrears. I do 28 days satisfaction guarantee, if you're not totally happy with the hosting at the end of 28 days you request a copy of the database from me, I close the forum temporarilly and dump the database. You import the database at the old host and re open the forum there and I never raise the first invoice.
Muggins I have pmed you a link. Hopefully that should alay your (not unfounded) fears.
electricblue: I can visit the thread without any issues and see that the most recent post was at 12:41AM today (Sunday). Its very possible that you are seeing a cached error page. Navigate back to the thread where you see the error and press the F5 key while holding down the control key. This will force your PC to go to the server and request a new copy of the page.
Try the following link: w ww.grandoldteam.com/forum/threads/48214-Busting-our-balls-Vadis-odjidja-ofoe?somegetstringthatmightinvalidatethecache
The server seems to be serving up the page hapilly.
electricblue; there cant generally be a database error occurring only on that page - since I am able to view it succesfully. Clear your cache and cookies and try again.
