Well, without sounding blunt. Do it then.

While we are the subject of questioning the point of forums, lets remember Vijay.

Oh I wasn't saying it's wrong and it's bad - just really debating on the goods and bad. Obviously the Internet and social networking has it's benefits. I found my old friend from Primary school on Facebook, and I'm discovering stuff about my ancestors on Ancestry.co.uk - and of course there is the heart felt messages that people leave about loved ones.

... and as long as people such as yourself make use of this forum, i'll make sure it's always here - even if I'm out of pocket a few quid every month and it takes a fair amount of time to maintain.

As Ghost pointed out, forums have stood the test of time and theres a reason for that.

Yeah they have. But it is an opportunity to be someone your not, or to say things you normally wouldn't say.

Do you agree with that?

Thats definatly true.

Infact one of the most annoying things about forums and the people who use them for me is people acting like complete jerks and then claiming "oh its only the internet i'm actually really nice in real life" or something similar.

If you feel the need to go on the internet and act like a jerk then you are a jerk. The internet is just as real as whatever you mean by real life.

To be honest, that's probably the main reason I left Bluekipper. Too many internet hard men on there, who try to be something they can't be in real life. These kind of people are very sad really.

Posted via Mobile Device I know what you are trying to say Ghost, but like someone else has already said, some people do behave like jerks on forums but the same can be said for the 'outside world'. Such is life mate.

I'd say my social life is great and i'm out most nights doing something, but whenever i'm not, i'm on the internet as i think the internet is boss lerd.

I'm not really arsed about the internet here, i've met a few people from it and one of those has gone on become a very good mate. I'm not really arsed by what goes on, on it, it's just life.

I come and go with it . If I can be arsed . I post . If not . I dont . Ive left meself once , over narks . Didnt see the point in calling names . Ive also put me seat number and the street where I live on here loads , so I havent got any secret identity shabs going on . This is the only forum I use . Id be exhausted going from one-to-the-other .
Suppose Im getting arl , but what I say on here is what Ill say should anyone ever have the inclination to come and ask me.
Its not that bad , especially from what Ive heard about BlueKipper , etc .

Well a forum can trace it's roots back to Roman times, and probably earlier. An Internet forum is a place where people can be someone, and someone they are less likely to be in real life.

This isn't a dig at this forum, this is generally what forum's are like in whatever guise.

Or maybe it's online social behaviour in general. Ever been on YouTube and watched a clip of anything? It's usually followed by people arguing about this and that in the comments section.

Sometimes I would like to disconnect and go back to basics.

What are you like in real life Ghost? Hope you are much different than you appear on here.

Im just as awesome in real life.

Its a total alter ego isnt it.

Its as little or as much of yourself as you like to show. Forums are to talk about something interesting or to find out more about each others views. To connect. To laugh, to go through the emotion of your choice. Life has always been the same, and no matter how many new gadgets we invent to make it easier life will never change from this fundamental.

And the fundamental aspect of life...is...well you could sort of call it the meaning of life...

...is repetition.

Its that simple. People do the same things for thousands upon thousands of generations and life gets perfected but repetition. Random acts of life arent really so random.

Does life look so different to one a thousand years ago? In our minds yes, but in the mind of a man born a thousand years ago? No. The toys are superior, but the modern man has adapted to his environment by being born into it. The millenium man would be modern had he been born today, and vice versa.

We think we are all that, but strip us back and put in the Roman Forum 2000 years ago, and Ill guarantee its the same experience we want in our lives now. Except we have to get off our asses which repetition has solved for us.
