2021/22 Frank Lampard

I see Frank is talking about there being more of an onus on us to get higher up the pitch against Crystal Palace than there was against Chelsea and United. Hmm. This is what worries me - not what he said, but the consequences of us going higher up the pitch playing a game we are not very good at against a team with pacy weaponry.

The only onus on us tonight is to win the game. A backs-to-the-wall 1-0 on the break is as valuable as a 3-2 drama fest. No marks for style tonight. We need to find a practical way to win this whether we cross the half-way line or not.

Never mind that my son, what sort of Matrix shizzle did you use to beat the swear filter??

God bless.

Matrix shizzle indeed brother Tallywacker.
Two posts from Bompeter, both of which beat the swear filter

Maybe he is the 1 the oracle spoke of.

Bompeter: "Are you trying to me I'll be able to dodge the swear filter?"

Morpheus: "No Bompeter, I'm trying to tell you, when you are ready, you won't need to"
Does this mean the Mods are agents?

And we've all defo taken the blue pill. Partizan aversion to red will do that.

Anyways, back on topic, get it right tonight Frank. Squeeze on last showing out of our shower, for all our sakes.

We lose tonight if he tells them to play a high line.

Keane is good at back to the wall, defend as if your life depended on it kind of football.

Ask him to play a high line, play it out from the back football and there are a minimum of two mistakes a game waiting to happen; Crystal Palace will only need one mistake. and we are dead

The fact that he even felt it was worth mentioning that there was an "onus on us" to get higher up the pitch concerns me. This really is not what matters tonight. We just need to win and getting up the pitch might not actually be the best way to do this in that it implies a consistent level of territorial dominance. I happen to think our chances are better if we have a little less of the ball and counter. It's obviously a fine balance, but it's one this manager has definitely struggled with so far as seen in the very contrasting attitudes in the Burnley, Spurs, Chelsea, and Watford matches.

Perhaps I am looking too much into what were mere words, but it touches on that tender concern I have about Frank, that he thinks these players can take that "onus to get higher up the field" on and still succeed. I don't think they can.

Agree; winning tonight is all that matters...and I think a counter-attacking mindset is the best way to win.

Next season we can get higher up the pitch and play football when we have better (hopefully) players.

Agreed I don't think we can play high with our current centre-backs - I thought he'd already figured that out to be honest.

Anyway, we just need a gritty, resilient performance again - respect to the fans going to the game.

Hopefully just mind games. We need to approach this game similar to how we approached those as, if we don't, we'll be conceding a few.

Concerned that this means Gomes being involved and the subsequent inevitable loss that follows.

Spot on; No points for style indeed - The result is everything...literally everything

I'm a Lampard skeptic, but I hope he gets time to learn and become a real asset to this club. However, any selection of Gomes tonight would tell me all I need to know. Sackable offence if that useless wreckage is on the pitch tonight.

In an ideal world Keane would be nowhere near the team tonight and I`m sure that would`ve been the case, if we hadn`t had the injuries we`ve got at the mo.

Playing Keane in a high line against their pace and Coleman for that matter would be suicide.

Let`s hope that Lampard has seen enough to realise this.

Big night for Francis.

We'll either see him sitting for that statue he'll deserve for keeping us up, or he'll be going back home to get his bags packed just in case it goes arse up on Sunday.
