2021/22 Frank Lampard

Franky Lamps pulled off the great escape. I have no doubt he'll try and evolve a different way to play without the threat of relegation. I mean he has no experience playing hoofball, he only played in elite teams.

I'm not expecting us to be that good. It's really a low bar, start to implement a system and style of play that is moderately successful. After a month he realized he couldn't do it and turned into an Allardyce (but worse) clone.

I knew mentioning Conte would get people going "but they're so much better" without seeing that a. they were crap before he got there and b. it's more about the process and the growth than being as good as they ended up being late in the season.
He tried to implement a system then quickly realised that our team wasn’t good enough for what he needed. Then he reverted to ‘keeping us in the league football’. It wasn’t pretty but he got great results against UTD, Chelsea & Leicester. Some mistakes along the way yes but he was hardly given a fair run from the start. Those players crumble and go down under Benitez.

Basically my take is the team was part of the issue but he himself was also not good enough

I mean I’ve been a critic of Frank but he hasn’t even had 1 window yet. I think he made a lot of mistakes over those first few months, almost like he’d never seen us play and set us out in formations and tactics that saw us take a lot of pumpings away from home. However, he managed to get the fanbase back as one, and that got us home. Now he faces his first full season hamstrung by finances, it’s likely going to be another tough season but he deserves his shot.

It's funny how you grow up playing and you're taught to close down players specifically so they can't get shots through at the keeper. It's pretty much an accepted way to play universally.

Then I'll come in and say relying on the keeper to make saves a good way to play and it's all "no!!!! That's what their job is" even though everyone has always played trying to not let that happen. Why would the manager want different?

And do you not think attacking players are taught anything to get around this Einstein?

Mad how every game finishes 0-0.

What position do you think the current squad is capable of?
I think the 1st team should be capable of 7 or 8th tbh. I think injuries and Benitez’s nihilistic approach to team building really done for us last season.
I’m no big fan of Lampard but I think FSW destroyed morale and confidence to such a point scraping survival was the best anyone could have done.
