The beauty of all this for me is Frank Lampard was and is someone every pro footballer looks up to. Not many players he manages will ever reach the heights he did, and he did it in the modern era.
Nobody can sulk or question him if their performances are below par and he calls them out, it's fantastic for us for the first time in years.
Yes I was over the moon when Ancelotti joined, but always had feelings he was here as a stop gap with his best years behind him, I could never get the feeling he wanted Everton as a long term project and so it was proved.
So different this time. It's as make or break for Frank as much as it is for us, which is worth a lot.
I think the benefits are many. The main ones being
1) Nobody will be an automatic on that team sheet, how many times in the past have our supposedly "star" men played week in week out whilst stinking? A thing of the past now I'm sure.
2) Just in the few hours he's been here he's strengthened us in order to have a bench that can change games, not just a "making up the numbers bench" but a proper bench if kept fit. A luxury denied us for a long while.
3) We now hopefully have the opportunity to score some goals from many areas. Of course our talisman Striker DCL should be our main man up front, and I expect him to improve further under Lampard, however he knows a bad patch of form and we now have the ability to go the false number 9 route if needed or draft in an U23 kid, we have an abundance of forward players who can score if Frank gets them in the zone, nobody's place will be a cert I hope.
4) We've seen the last 2 managers experimenting with playing players out of position, I got sick of seeing it, especially when armchair fans can see it's a mistake from the off but the manager perseveres with it.....bringing Jonjoe Kenny in for instance whilst keeping Coleman in also......but playing him on the left with Rondon up front, we played with 8 men. Ludicrous when we had other options that weren't even considered it appears.
I expect to see Frank experiment too but not in such an inane way.
5)I honestly can't recall any manager since Moyes who's joined us with as much to prove. His passion and determination remind me of Moyes too.
It'll offend some and apologies for that but if he turns out to be anywhere near Moysies calibre he'll do for me any many others I think.
His words yesterday summed up what he wants for us and went down very well for me.
He'll have better backing than Moyes had and has instant respect from the players which Moyes had to earn.
Also I think he wants to experience another European night of football more than any of us here, so the early signs are good.
Another false dawn? Maybe yes and that's my fear of course. However to me this seems more like a proper reset than the normal knee jerk appointment.
Come on Frank, COYB.....we're all onside and the atmosphere is building.
