It can work. You need energetic wing-backs (who are naturally playing on their right side, not JJK on the left for example)

You need a left-footed CB, which somehow we have failed to recruit bar Branthwaite who does not suit a possession-based 3 at the back because he can't play in wide areas.

You also need midfielders capable of getting the ball off the defence and playing passes through the middle.

The formation and shape was crap today as soon as Townsend went off because Gray and Gordon have no discipline at all.

Eat your humble pie Frank and either play the kids and work with the first team for several weeks for the game that actually matters, or drop the shoehorning into a formation that you like even though you don't have the players for it

If they were even 5-3s or 4-2s you might say he was hoping to make attack the best form of defence against poorer sides, but we're simply being ragged all over the shop by pretty ordinary sides.

He's massively out of his depth. I doubt, unlike his predecessor, he even believes in himself at this point. End result is we are ripe for the plucking and a fall into the Championship. Dyche will be licking his lips in anticipation of a gutsy 1-0 at Turf Moor.

My concern is lack of New Manager Bounce, As in .......Leeds have put a half decent run together, whilst Newcastle have all but performed a miracle ! I fully appreciate we have a shyte front line, a shyte defence and an alarmingly non existent midfield but hardly any new manager spark whatsoever ??

He thinks he is managing chelsea here...my concern is that he has too much expectations on what those players can do. Playing compact is the only system that has been working in the last couple of years...no spaces or small spaces between lines and players...

He's not the coach to do that though. If we wanted someone to play deep and compact, Allardyce was available.

Look at Vieira, took over a limited side who were used to playing very deep and compact under Hodgson and has them playing very expansively. He had a pre-season though.

We had one. Performances improved but we didn't get many points. Now performances are generally crap and we still lose.

Hardly absurd when Gomes refuse to put in effort. Any players with better physicality and desire than Gomes will completely change the flow of the game today.

The only thing Gomes has done of late is give away stupid free kicks he has seriously gone down hill.
