I don't believe in him, never felt he had the credentials, and think we are relying on others being even more abject than we are to even survive this season. We live in hope - but I don't like false hope and right now the evidence before my eyes tells me we are more than bad enough to drop. We have all the necessary ingredients. For self-preservation reasons, I'm resigned.

He's not the coach to do that though. If we wanted someone to play deep and compact, Allardyce was available.

Look at Vieira, took over a limited side who were used to playing very deep and compact under Hodgson and has them playing very expansively. He had a pre-season though.

And has the players to do it plus got some decent investment over the summer.

He seems to me to set us up to play like a team with good players: defenders who are comfortable in possession, and midfielders who can receive the ball under pressure and use it constructively, or at least find a blue shirt 10 yards away. We have very few of those.

This squad is that bad that any manager would struggle. It says more about the players that they didn't even positively react to a new manager coming in.

We had 5 wingers on the pitch for the last 30 minutes. 5 wingers, what the hell is lampard meant to do when his only for midfield is terrible and the rest of the bench is made up of wide players?

No manager would have improved these players. These players have been terrible on the whole for a young attacking manager, a world class one , a manager who finished in Europe the season before and left us for Barcelona , for the owners choice and now a young coach with a boss coaching set up.

It's the players who are unable to follow instruction, who have no idea how to play together or how to play independently. It's the players who aren't fighting on the pitch , ball watching in the box every week and standing off. It's the players leaking goals seeing as though different managers can't change that.

It's the same cycles over and over and over and the only thing that isn't changing is the team. We leaked goals under Silva (Coleman holgate Mina Keane) , benitez , lampard and unsworth. Stop blaming the manager until the manager gets rid of the same crap defenders that have been here for years.

This situation has nothing to do with his abilities.

Anyone coming in would have done a miracle job to keep us up. IMO we will stay up and Lampard will push on from there.

That cup game has no bearing on anything. It was a nuisance fixture we had to fulfil.
