He's not the problem.

We all know this squad lack the mentality.

But he's contributing to the problem.

He's setting us up to fail - particularly away at home.

He's making us more vulnerable, and he's right;
  • “There is only so much you can keep trying to butter someone up to get confidence,
Confidence comes from results and performances - being battered in every away game he's been here for removes whatever he says.

He's making the same mistakes, and he's not being held to account because;

1. Apathy/anger towards players.
2. "We can't keep sacking managers!"

Away from home, he has to be pragmatic. He has to recognise this team's defence is atrocious and this team is vulnerable.

He has to preserve whatever little confidence we have in a relegation fight. If you can't win, don't lose. If you lose, don't lose 5-0, 4-0...

To set us up to press so high up the pitch, with our defence and a midfield which can't tackle is absolute insanity. If he didn't learn that from Southampton or Newcastle, I hoped Spurs would have rammed it home.

Evidently based on Palace, it hasn't.

This isn't after the event cry arsing either - I've been crying it in for ages now.

If he sets us up again like that at Burnley and we lose, I'll lose faith in him.

Agree, he's absolutely pathetic. A useless idiot. Get rid.

Id agree if there was a line up or formation that is going to get points and wins. I think this has been exhausted. And it comes down to we have to many players who no matter how many managers they play under make individual errors and switch off during games.
There isnt any winning formation. The piss poor recruitment has come to bite us on the arse now.
No like i say i agree with that, and it's 100% the players not the manager for me, I just think we need to keep it as simple as possible. If you make mistakes anyway then you're probably more likely to make mistakes when your job keeps changing by the week. At least if they build up some consistency it might mean people stay focused a bit more and get used to what's being asked of them.

Of course they did but the manager then has to react and make the right changes which he failed to do.

I can't be a hypocrite about it. Had Benitez played Gordon LWB we'd all be fuming.

Lampard got it badly wrong with every in-game change he had to make yesterday. The players were crap.

I've never said he hasn't made mistakes but I find it ludicrous that people are blaming him for the losses.

These players are the least everton players I've ever seen. If they play well and try hard one game, you can be almost certain they won't be arsed the following week. They don't take responsibility, they don't think they have to work hard, they don't fear losing, and they don't care enough.

People seem more annoyed that they were called out publicly than the fact they gave up again. If ever a squad did not deserve to be defended publicly, it's this excuse of an Everton team. I will never identify with them, and I won't be happy until about 80% of them are gone.

We know he is not the problem but he certainly isn't helping himself at times.

I think we will survive by the skin of our teeth but we have to let him change things the way he/Thelwell want, any nonsense from Moshiri/Bill/Kia and he should just walk.

5 at the back and Kenny anywhere on the left hand side needs binning forever.

Agreed Mike

Would you like the Everton job this week? I've decided to do a weekly rota where we all get a chance to manage the Blues.

I'll give you this week AND next week and then I'll take over the reigns Sunday morning before West Ham.

No Kenny, no 5 at the back!

Good on Lampard for digging the players out. I'm shocked to see so many supporters turning on Lampard though and not backing him over it. We've all seen these players be nowhere near good enough for years, and the minute a manager calls them out on it, people suddenly turn and make out it's the manager.

For all those saying find a formation and stick with it. Part of the issue with that is we have a very limited number of central midfielders, and a seemingly endless supply of ineffective wide players. I'm sure he'd love to just stick to a side/system and pick up results, but when we have injuries and suspensions which compound an existing squad imbalance then his choices are very limited.

I can see what he was trying to do in that game yesterday, 2-0 down at half time, there was no point changing Mylenko for Kenny, he didn't make the change because Kenny was poor, he made it because Kenny is the least creative player in the side. He was hoping that he was throwing on an extra forward, Holgate could cover the left side of defence and he was hoping Gordon could push forward and still play as an attacking player. He wanted more attacking players on the pitch because in a cup game, it's all or nothing. But unfortunately Palace are a team of big athletes and whenever we lost possession we were pushed back due to how quick they could cover the ground. In a game when we were chasing the game to try and get goals back, Palace still had better chances than us. The game was fairly even but they just had more quality. Everton should have scored when they were on top, Keane and Richarlison both had very good chances. It was similar to the Southampton game.

At a time in the game when Everton needed a player to get on the ball and make things happen, the players did nothing. No one stood up and took responsibility just like Lampard said. If we can stay up, the massive rebuilding job we've all hoped for may finally happen this Summer.

Agree with a lot of this. He’s the manager we need long term but not the manager we need right now. Hence why I suggested he should step aside for Allardyce until the summer a few weeks back

Yes because that is something that happens regularly in football. Managers just take sabbaticals for a few weeks to let someone else have a go.

This isn't football manager where you can go on holiday for a few months

To be clear, i'm not saying he needs to a pick a formation and stick with it rigidly no matter what, I'm saying that I can understand that if you're a limited player like Kenny then playing left back, right back, centre half, left wing back and right wing back in the space of a month might mean that you struggle to remember exactly what's being asked of you in any given situation and lead to hesitation and confusion. If you're Godfrey then playing full back, then central in a 3 and then central in a 2 in your last 3 games the same might happen. It's not an excuse, if they were really good players it wouldn't matter, but they're NOT really good players, and I can't help thinking that simplifying what we're asking of them might help them. Most of their good performances in recent years have come when keeping it very simple and playing to instruction, i'm not sure that's a coincidence.

I agree with this, actually.

I do generally like what Lampard is trying to do and I'm happy with the coaching staff he's brought in. His biggest issue currently though is that he's been unbelievably naïve away from home and it's a tad concerning that he hasn't mentioned the need to be a bit more pragmatic considering the situation we find ourselves in.

The players are crap, we all know that, but for now he really just needs to start working with what he's got rather than trying to reinvent the wheel game-after-game then start talking about how much his hands are tied..
