The stats put up are cherry picked ones from the Covid affected season. When they changed the rules for that season regarding hand balls if you recall and loads of penalties were given.
Liverpool have been awarded more penalties this season, than last season though (as have Everton to be fair).

How many other managers get pulled up for that comment?

Tons tbh

The FA have always been super anal about policing managers comments about refs even when criticism is justified.

One quick google search for 'manager fined for misconduct' will show numerous examples of managers getting fined for relatively mild criticism.

So last season there were 34 more penalties given in total than this season (which still has 4/5 rounds of matches to play so a few sums would expect us to hit 100 this season).

So 24 more penalties In total. Liverpool and City have had 1 against them this season. They had 17 against them in total last season. So there was an additional 16 given against them which is the main chunk of additional penalties. Otherwise, the numbers of penalties is fairly consistent between this season and last season for the rest of the clubs (8 difference if the current average is maintained until end of season).

But yeah, loads more were given last season.......

And the crowds for those teams don't cause bias......

The bias against Everton from footballing authorities is sickening

If Klopp had said the same about a penalty at Goodison then we wouldn't hear a peep
It’s not just bias against Everton it’s everybody who isn’t in that top echelon. The only managers who wouldn’t have been pulled up for that are probably Klopp and Guardiola but obviously they’d never ever have to come out and say something like that which in itself is the source of the problem

You're not wrong. There were far more penalty's for every team last season.
Okay, let’s run the maths.

There were 92 penalties in the Premier League 19/20.

There were 124 penalties in the Premier League 20/21.

So that’s an increase of 32 during the covid season.

HALF of that increase came against Liverpool and Manchester City, who went from 2 against to 18 against.

To put it another way, the average increase in penalties against a Premier League side went up 34%.

For Manchester City and Liverpool, it went up 900%.

Sorry, but that’s as clear as it can be. The officials don’t make the right decisions when these sides are in front of crowds.

You shouldn't blame the result on not getting a decision. You shouldn't go all in and call the game corrupt without having strong evidence. The supposed foul was soft as. It's not likely it would have been given whoever we were playing. That all undermined Super Frankies silly behaviour, but that's ok because he's been charged, will get fined and hopefully will learn something from it. Won't hold my breath though

Very poor attempting at being a WUM - 1/10 - try harder.

That is…astounding.

Those stats are bonkers

There is no excuse for getting so many decisions wrong in the VAR era. But then again, most of us knew VAR would turn out like this with the inherent big team bias in the game. The first season of VAR in La Liga was a complete farce with the decisions for Barca and RM, so it was to be expected similar would follow when introduced in the PL.

If referees don't want criticism, then they need to be stronger and do their jobs better. Until we start seeing referees show conviction to give decisions against City and the reds, then I will continue to criticism them for being inept. Lampard was calm, and got his point across, and his point was based on evidence. To then charge him shows the FA are not interested in improving the standard of officiating.

I can't believe I just spent half an hour running those numbers and got beaten to it.

Good work, though.

That's what I was trying to say but you have put it more eloquently.

The comments that there were loads more penalties for every team are laughable when it didn't even average out as 1 extra per team.

It's the fact that this season, most of the clubs have remained consistent with last year and the only real change is that there's no penalties against liverpool and City.
