2022/23 Frank Lampard

Would a good manager have got himself into the situation where these are the players he relies on or are we saying Lampard has zero input in transfers?

I remember when Moyes came in and the club was on its knees in a similar way as to how it was when Lampard arrived. Yes we had tough times but the majority of us backed the manager because he showed very early on he could do his job by getting poor players to play above their level.

I don't see that with Lampard. I never did but I was always fair in saying he should keep the job until it looks like he'll take us down. We are fast approaching that point already.

I think Lampard can attract top players...that we wouldnt usually be able to entice.

My thinking is that hes someone that can build but needs something to work with rather than tosh.

Weve clearly not got a tactical genius but someone who can build with the right players.

But in that case he needs to find a way to make us harder to beat surely? As a manager you can't just say 'yeah the attackers aren't great so we're doomed to lose every game we play for eternity'. You have to find solutions, find other ways to do things. Improve the players you've got through coaching, come up with new tactical ideas, get men behind the ball and grind out results, just do something that gets points on the board. Literally nobody is saying it's easy and he should have this side challenging the top 6, but a run of 7 defeats in 9 (almost certainly becoming 8 in 10 tomorrow) is unacceptable, he simply has to take responsibility for that.

I think hes feeling it and taking responsibility.

At the same time, if DCL was fit we wouldnt be in this situation.

If we bring in 2 good attackers we'll be out of this drama.

I don't disagree with the last line, but then any other side down there could effectively say the same thing. It's difficult to have faith that we're going to sign two good attackers in one - January - window, when our business over the last 6/7/8 years has generally ranged from just about OK to absolutely comical.

Not that I expected it. But it’s concerning that we haven’t signed anyone prior to the window opening, we need someone in right away. We can’t do our usual messing about and bringing someone in as a last resort. I expect the same as usual

We replaced Digne pretty quickly and effectively last year.

In the summer we sensibly signed Coady and did well with Tarkowski + usurped Moyes for Onana.

Forward players....a different ball game in recent seasons.

Do they go for a target man...or someone like Jonathan David whose quick and two footed, yet small.

For me, with pace out wide we'd need to match that in the middle and catch teams out with pace and movement....move away from the target man game.

Did we? Mykolenko is a massive creative downgrade and passing downgrade in a team completely lacking in those areas.

Weren’t you all about Lampard

You can't get a tune out of a broken fiddle

You can't make davies play like messi

You can't get calvert lewin or mina to play three games in a row

You can't get kenwright or red lips to own up to the mess the club is in

Run for the hills.....

Martinez got us 5th , 11th and 11th in his three seasons with us, got into two semi finals, and we played in Europe.
Frank would love to be even equal to that record at it worst.
I mean when you actually put it like that, it’s like he did a really good job. He got us Lukaku, brought Stones through, Barkley through, got Gareth Barry, I mean, he had some awful, awful signings but most of them was players he brought over from Wigan. If there was a Martinez mark 2, then at least he wouldn’t have a former club to bring over their crap.

I enjoyed Martinez as manager but once lost all knowledge on how to defend he never got it back, which was a shame. But we did play some really good exciting stuff under him.

I would love David here aswell. Surly, we say to them, here’s some money over a certain few years and here’s Andre Gomes aswell. Surely we can do a deal with them.

Nah I'm going on about Fulham because you said Silva had more creative players and I'm pointing out that he also has Fulham flying. He's a better manager than Lampard

Wouldnt say they are flying. They've lost as many as they've won. Doing ok though.
I'd love mitrovic up top for Everton btw. I think he's exactly the type Everton need right now.
