With public pressure mounting on the board and owner, there will be a sacking to distract, it’s a well worn strategy when the heat goes on those in the ivory tower mate.
Unfortunately your right on this one. Typical Everton board. One public statement per yr and guess what new manager again! Yet the root cause is in their failings

Frank would play open football against the teams we can realistically get points off. That's his mentality. It'll defo relegate us if we allow him more games.

I truly believe he's being strung along to take this last game and get it out the way. I'm 99% certain he's managed his last game at GP.
You could be right even in the unlikely event of a win tonight - I'm old enough to remember Billy Bingham being sacked 2 days after beating Stoke in the 3rd round of the cup when Duncan McKenzie dazzled!

Spot on and we aren't good enough to play open passing football against anyone!

Lampard's interview after his first game last year included the following comments about Van de Beek:

"I brought him here because of his talent in terms of his play, his intelligence and his work ethic...He looked confident on the ball and that's exactly what I brought him here to do...I think he can do different roles and that's the beauty of him and why I moved so quickly to try and get him when I came in...I'm a big admirer of him as a player and I think he can do both roles for us. He played as one of two midfield players today and I know he's got the talent to link and get us through the lines of the pitch with his passing, and he also has the work ethic needed in that role...that's one of the big pulls of me bringing him in, knowing that he can bring different elements of his game to help us in different ways."

So Lampard definitely had a part to play in at least one, and it sounds like it was a lot more than just signing it off too.
From what was reported by reliable journalists it was a case of the players basically being presented as options to Lampard in his final interview/when he had the job, which was January 30.

But yes he definitely had a say. It was obviously all very rushed.

VdB could have been a good move. We didn't pay a loan fee and he played well at the start but then got COVID and then got injured and FL just didn't have a role for him. In an ideal world, Lampard probably thought he was the perfect player for the possession-based game he wanted to play. But he could never implement it.
