You could argue Southampton’s players are worse, that’s valid. Forest’s issue is an entire squad of new players not being able to gel overnight for obvious reasons, but strictly on paper I think you’d struggle to make a case for their players being worse than ours. How many of our players do you think they’d take? Fulham certainly have better players than us all over the pitch imo. Most of theirs and Forest’s players are internationals as well, that genuinely means nothing these days.
As I said, it's subjective. Not many people would say that Adarabioyo, Duffy, Toffolo, Reed, Cairney, Kebano, Decordova-Reid, Cook, Surridge, O'Brien, Colback, McKenna etc are better than our players if we're being honest and not hyperbolic. There certainly wasn't a lot of excitement when we were linked with Lingard, Dennis, Pereira, or Dan James so let's not pretend that they're clear improvements on paper either. Even Mitrovic - who some people now seem to talk about as if he's the reincarnation of Dixie Dean - went into this season with a PL record of 24 goals in 104 games, while Maupay, who's apparently more like a reincarnation of Dixie the giant toffee mascot, had a record of 26 in 102.

As I said, how it looks on paper isn't the important thing, and it's a matter of opinion either way, but I think the idea that we're clearly worse than those sort of teams on paper is plainly just self pitying nonsense.

Fair enough. Most of the players you mentioned there are squad players, it would be the equivalent of me throwing Tom Davies and Coleman into the mix. But it is opinions you’re right. I think we have the second worst squad in the league on paper at this moment in time.

Agree with this, but I don't think it shows that "a new manager is almost beyond the point". A new manager is probably the one possible variable that can keep us in the league – likely playing scrappy, defensive football– for one more season while we pray for the situation at the top to change. Unfortunately, even if, say, Sean Dyche does come in, take us back to basics and keep us up one more year, Everton FC look to my eyes like a club circling the drain and waiting to go down. It's the same stink that hung around Villa, West Ham, Newcastle and, most worryingly, Sunderland before their eventual relegations.
Lampard should have been sacked after Bournemouth. His continued employment is proof of our complete lack of basic standards - but also of our paralysis due to the sanctions. My point is not that Frank should be kept on, but that there will be no steering the ship around while the current absent leadership remains in place. A better manager would have kept us up in this climate - and possibly still would even now. But I think we're circling the drain and have left it too late and even i we were to stay up, so what? To repeat all of this again next season? Without new ownership, we're basically Sisyphus, to be eternally punished for cheating death twice.
