For a manager with such a bad record, I really feel no ill will towards him. I do generally think he did a good job at the end of last year to stop the freefall we were in with Benitez. The problem is he's the one accountable for a similar if not worse freefall this year.
I think the lack of vitriol aimed in his direction is partly down to his personality, and partly down to our flattened expectations. It feels like a grim inevitability that we find ourselves here once more.

I’ve reflected on last season quite a bit and it’s actually a miracle we didn’t get relegated

We somehow lost to Burnley, Brentford and Wolves and drew to Watford away but beat Man Utd, Chelsea and Newcastle and had that infamous comeback win v palace.

I believe 99% of the reason why we stayed up is because or richarlison, pickfords heroics and the fans

I think he galvanised the fans after Benitez had all but made us apathetic. Of course I think most appointments could have done the same thing so perhaps I'm giving him too much credit.

The thing is he may be limited as a manager but we can all see he's also been dealt a poor hand with the squad and the lack of striking talent available to him. That's why people don't have any I'll will towards him. He's been left out to dry by this board and unfortunately not had the experience to get us out of it.

Succession of key moments killed him

The Tielemans wonder goal on the stroke of half time

The clearance off the line v Wolves then their last minute winner

JWP turning into Zidane for ten minutes after Dominic Calvert-Lewin had passed up an opportunity to make it 2-0

Could even go all the way back to Doucoure’s brain dead push on the Chelsea player first game of the season

Almost all the key moments when we had a chance to stop the rot or build momentum went against Lampard every time. If you’d said at the end of the Palace home game that he’d be sacked soon there wouldn’t have been many takers. I’m not convinced he was good enough long term to massively improve us but given the bounce of the ball another way we could have been sat safely in mid table not having these conversations, instead the Everton death spiral kicks in and another manager is out the door.

No, it had nothing to do with bad luck. He is a terrible manager, it's that simple. Very happy that he was sacked.
