Lampard had to go, but, it makes me very sad, after Benitez, he was like a breath of fresh air. What is doubtful though is whether our board can identify the right man now and, even if they do, would he want to come to this circus.

No matter who we get as manager, they will make no significant improvement on Lampard if the board can't get his Danjuma deal done and bring in a quality target man. This squad is so limited that the only path to survival is two banks of four, with Holgate and Godfrey as full backs, a good mobile target man and somebody like Danjuma to break out quick and profit from the target man's flicks on. I know it sounds horrible, but, needs must,and when Iwobi is your most creative midfielder, you won't have much joy trying to play through teams.

For what it's worth, I think our goose is cooked, the board will mess about for weeks and then appoint he wrong man, end result, we play championship football next season and very likely an even lower standard the season after that. Thanks Bill, thanks Farhad, you pair of. W s

He's some kind of a wrong un, but, I don't think he is Chesney, this lad claims to be a blue, Chesney didn't in fairness to him, in fact, when he was asked directly if he was a blue he answered that he followed Benitez wherever he managed, because...well God only knows.

The players are crap.

Lampard is a crap manager, and he needed to go a few weeks before now.

But this squad takes us down.

I cannot stress this enough. I've been watching Everton for 20 years now and - I know others have been watching longer btw - this is by far the worst squad in my memory.

There have definitely been scatterings of worse individuals than this lot, over the years, but it's difficult to assess the overall squad capabilities. I think that we've had worse and survived, but wouldn't bet more than fifty quid on it.
