2022/23 Frank Lampard

The fact that we have geordies and kopites trying to undermine Frank, makes me even more desperate to want him to succeed as manager here.

Of course everyone is entitled to an an opinion, but i do have an issue with geordies and kopites coming on here, and trying to influence Everton supporters thoughts and feelings.
Who are these Geordies and Kopites?
Name and shame.

Yes without a centre forward

Look, I like lampard a lot and I want him to succeed but we need to stop with this. If we get relegated we can’t just say ‘we didn’t have any good strikers though’ and get a reprieve. We need to get results, and soon. It’s absolutely not lampard’s fault that we are where we are, and he certainly shouldn’t be getting sacked any time soon, but at some point in the relatively near future we’re going to have to get better or he’s going to be in big trouble.

This is a vicious circle though. We cant get better without proper attackers. You cant compete at this level without a good striker

I do agree but also feel we really need as a fanbase to just take a step back a bit and not panic.

We've, IMO, thrown away points because of the disastrous way we've done business, even with the caveats included, compounded by injuries.

The manager has made mistakes, but also is restricted by what options he has available.

We're 4 games in. We've lost 2 by the odd goal, drawn the others. We played well enough in patches against Forest to win and would have done with a decent attacker, that should have been in for that game at the very latest. The people at the top of the club, Thelwell included, shoulder the blame for that.

We've got a horrid run coming up, but hopefully the 2-4 players brought in this week will help with that. Again, though, it's leaving our business so late, or not being decisive with deals that have dragged on for weeks now, that is costing us right now.

Do think it's fine to criticise Lampard's crap subs etc - because they are crap - but also appreciate that there's a dreadful choice he has to make in most cases.

Of course. As i said, this isn’t me saying lampard is awful let’s sack him, that would be crazy. What’s equally crazy though is people (and there are lots of them) saying ‘ I can’t believe anyones questioning frank, why are people worrying, we’ll be easily midtable’ etc.

At this moment in time I’d say we’re favourites to go down. People keep saying games have been close, but 3 of the games have been against other teams we’d expect to be down there, and we haven’t won any of them. It’s concerning.

Lampard has to find a way to start winning games. Nobody’s saying it’s easy but that’s the just the way football works. With the best will in the world, if we’re on 2/3 points after 7 games - which is possible to say the least - then he’s going to be under enormous pressure. There’s no point pretending otherwise.

I do think we need better players though too.

When - if - we have them, then I think we'll have a better chance with the very average manager we have too.

But yeah, as it stands we're definitely going to be down there.

I completely agree that Frank needs to be given time and I am very grateful that he kept us up last season. The only condition on this support is that we stay in the Premier League. I don’t want us to be in the Championship. I have no expectation that we will win any cup or qualify for Europe this season. I just don’t want us to be relegated.

Most seasons, survival requires about 1 point per game. November and December are the most common months for PL managers to be sacked. This year, because of the six-week World Cup break after 16 games, any club with less than 16 points at that time is going to be very tempted to change manager - particularly clubs with few players playing in the World Cup. This allows a club enough time for a re-set. It may not be fair to the manager but it is the reality of a results-based competition.

It is awful to see us in the bottom three tonight but it is way too early after just four games to draw conclusions about Frank and the season ahead. But we, and he, need at least 16 points by mid-November or unfortunately we will be looking for our eight ‘permanent’ manager since Moyes. Let’s all get behind the team and the manager and see where we are after the next 12 games.

He needs to improve just as much as some of his players. This fixation with five at the back has to end as we don't have the players for us. If that's all he has to offer us tactically then he'll fall on his sword sooner or later.
