2022/23 Frank Lampard

We're at the start of our journey, Lampard has addressed the main issues from last season, our defense is what will keep us in the league.

He's added legs to the midfield, with Gana and Gueye, he's also secured with Garner and Onana the future.

He needs a few windows before being judged, like any manager.

Positives, even in defeat.

I mean we don't have Mick Keggar volleying them past Pickford.. and that in itself is very reassuring.

There is no journey, unless some unforeseen miracle occurs we are still going to be a lower/mid table club in ten years time. The gap between us and the top 6 is basically impossible to bridge without us getting some saudi style takeover and cooking the books city style. Only thing to look forward to is avoiding relegation.

Yes this is a very negative post but deep down i think most people know its likely to be true, especially when you factor in that our recruitment is still very suspect.

The last two games have simply confirmed what many of us knew: we are utterly mediocre and very much a work-in-progress. Any progress we've seen so far - and there has been some - is painfully slow. Lampard will get away with competitive defeats to United and Spurs, but the honeymoon this season is well and truly over now. Newcastle are not a side - in their current state - that should hold any fears for a side that is on the up. The run to the World Cup will tell a tale now. The manager, whether people like it or not, is under pressure to show that we can do more than glean one point per game. I think he deserves patience - but the problem people need to recognise with the "patience" argument is that you can give somebody all the patience in the world and there is still no guarantee that better times lie ahead. We need to start getting some results now. A third straight defeat will put serious pressure on the next month.

That's guaranteed. Newcastle will rattle 4 past us.

The Palace game is HUGE.
