2022/23 Frank Lampard

I said a day or so ago that we're a striker away from being a comfortable midtable team again.

January hands us the opportunity to have that and we need to take it. Because this team right now are going to blow hot and cold all season if we dont get a goal scorer to take the heat of the CM and defence.

…I agree, Dave. Whilst we’re fine with a fit & robust DCL, we simply don’t know if his body will hold up. Maupay isn’t effective cover, we really need a conventional central striker option.

It’ll be brilliant if DCL remains robust but that’s a risk we can’t take.

Two or three new players could transform this squad. Wide player , striker and possibly a fullback or creative midfield player.
Get two in and we would be nailed on top half.

Its a very good point and interesting point on the full backs mate, im a big Patterson and Myko fan, yet full backs with different attributes can add a lot of creatively, competition for places there might not be a bad thing. We are content enough to have "back ups" there and have been for a long time, but its an area were there is scope to add threat, thinking of when Lampard was at Chelsea they had Alonso, but he also went out and signed Chillwell.

We have decisions to make in the summer on Coleman and Vinagre.

We had the cash before the window closed to be bidding for a striker.
Trouble is what do you do mate. Shore up the defense and midfield or go all out for a striker. Tough one we were meh in all positions last season.

Probability of a quality striker coming in Jan is pretty much nil. We'll get one but quality nah...

Cut it at this level ????

You do know he took Chelsea to the Champions league with a transfer ban don't you.

Yes they sacked him the season after for a poor run , but they sack everyone.

I suggest this club needs to get to his level , then we'll have a good team.

Edit
Chelsea sacked him when they where 5 points off Liverpool in 4th place.

He was taking an expensive squad and getting overturned by tactically better teams like... Everton under Ancelotti.

The stats don't like - his win rate at Everton and ability to compete with traditional top 6 teams has been poor.

What level is Frank at? Nobody really knows. It would be hard to fail at Chelsea despite any transfer ban Simply due to the players they have.

It's not a question of if we are good enough - it's a question of being ambitious enough. We were able to attract Ancelotti, there is no reason why we shouldn't be aiming to attract someone of that calibre again.

Well we ended the window looking to get Adam or Brereton Diaz in and it never materialised.

If the intent was there then it should be even more so now.

Forget yesterday's welcome result, it wont be typical. We'll continue to struggle up front to get goals.
I agree. We do need another striker no doubt and not just a back up but someone that has some potential. My reasoning was that although we need a striker it wasn't through lack of trying and still believe we got it right by suring up the defence and midfield first. Sure we will be in for one in January but we just have to muddle through until then

Didn't Chelsea under Lampard destroy us and Ancelotti at the Bridge 4-0

You suggested he can't cut it at this level.
He is exactly the the man to fill the manager's job here.
You mention are we ambitious enough ? , the ambition has never been in question. You say we should looking at a higher calibre , haven't we tried that ?

You forget what he actually walked into taking this job , it was a car crash and the club at its lowest ebb with with an accumulation of poor players amassed by various previous managers.

Again he is just what this club needs , and I suggest the levels he has had in his career he will strive for here.

Apart from a few Internet fools , he & the work his backroom team are doing is overwhelmingly what we was needed to the vast majority of our fans.

The major surgery is almost done now , and if he is backed ( I'm sure he will be ) he will prove any doubters wrong.
He is undoubtedly the right man.

That second goal yesterday was a City goal, can’t believe we are capable of that. Time for the handbrake to come off I think.
The third goal was as good if not better. Mcneil gets the ball wide left near halfway but then drives forward and infield, finds the right pass at the right time to Iwobi, who then shows the vision and skill to lay it back on a plate to him.

We are a long way off where we want to get to, but there is talent there to work with. We just need to see it more consistently. You won't create 2 tap ins every week like we did yesterday in the second half. But it was good to see players making those runs into the 6 yard box too. So many times we see the ball fall and none of our players have continued their run.
