2022/23 Frank Lampard

Lampard is clearly still learning as a manager, but in my mind, there is no doubt he has had a big positive impact on our club.

The team are clearly still a work in progress and there are things to improve, but a lot of really good things have been done already.

The last transfer window really was good for us. Given the amount of change needed, it wax at the top end of what I thought possible. Defence and midfield are miles better.

The atmosphere has changed remarkably as Frank has found a way of mobilising the supporters behind the team, we’re far stronger because of that.

I’m not expecting any miracles, just signs of improvement and that’s exactly what I am seeing. I also have a sense that there is an underlying plan. Something we haven’t had in a long time.
I said a day or so ago that we're a striker away from being a comfortable midtable team again.

January hands us the opportunity to have that and we need to take it. Because this team right now are going to blow hot and cold all season if we dont get a goal scorer to take the heat of the CM and defence.

We do need another goal scorer, no doubt. Whether what we want is available within our budget is another matter.

Is that not what most mid-table teams do?

We need to manage Dom carefully over this period, we have a weeks recovery now, then another week to recover, then 3 games in a week though he might not play Vs Bourmouth.

If he doesn't go to the World Cup, he will get a couple of weeks off and i suspect there will be another mini preseason before the restart.

Think the choice was between striker or defence and midfield. Think starting from the back was the correct call myself
Well we ended the window looking to get Adam or Brereton Diaz in and it never materialised.

If the intent was there then it should be even more so now.

Forget yesterday's welcome result, it wont be typical. We'll continue to struggle up front to get goals.

Two or three new players could transform this squad. Wide player , striker and possibly a fullback or creative midfield player.
Get two in and we would be nailed on top half.
As someone mentioned in the Thelwell thread, imagine if we'd signed Kudus or a similar player; for me, that alone would have pushed us to an extra win or two.

I think a wide player or a number ten will be the priority in January or the summer window, with a striker being decided based on whether Dom stays or not.

We both know he isn't capable of consistency...either in terms of scoring or fitness. And in any case, Maupay and Rondon are not adequate back up strikers.

We need to strengthen up front in January. Dont let one game persuade you otherwise.
We don't know that. As already been shown, prior to last season he was capable of staying fit and regularly scoring.

You've already been proven wrong after stating he wouldn't play again this season. And he may now be fit for every game for all you know. The evidence you have to suggest otherwise is pure conjecture on your part based off 1 season where he was poorly managed.

If he is injured again by January then yes, we need a first choice striker, but otherwise no. A replacement for rondon, now there's something I fully endorse.
