2022/23 Frank Lampard

Of course I'm sure, but put it this way, if it was Usmanov that wanted him what does it say about Moshiri.

Anyway, to stay on topic, I'm just glad the chairman had the guts to go and get an unproven manager like Frank, it was a master stroke that paid off.
Our Chairman wanted Perraira from day one .
It was the fans make no mistake that wanted Lampard.

You should listen to what the REAL fans want from the club instead of pinning your colours to the mast of a Kopite.
It's totally embarrassing.

Also people chat about Potterball and say why cant we do that.

Potter was at Brighton for 3 years, he had 6 transfer windows to mould the side, Lampard has had 1 full window and a Deadline Day.

In his first season he took them from 17th to 16th, then 15th, then 16th, only after 3 seasons did he get them to 9th.

And its not like they attack any better than us either.
The performances got better before the results did. That's why people were able to predict that something like a top half finish and the start to this season before Potter got poached might happen before it actually did happen.

Considering how we play Frank's results are right where they should be.

I don’t know what some people are expecting. This time last year we’d have killed for a defensive team that isn’t shipping goals and falling apart. With our finances and the changes we required in the squad, we can’t go from zeros to heros in half a season. In my opinion we are slightly ahead of plan as they have changed a vast majority of the squad and the mentality. Patience is required and a whole lot of hope
The question I'd ask is how does it move from a defensive team to something else?

If you're trying to do it with similar defensive structures it has to be a counter attacking side. We aren't recruiting counter attacking players. Onana, McNeil and Maupay all aren't that.

The other option is to become a team that plays higher up. The defense doesn't allow for that though. Coady and Tarkowski instincts are to go backwards in moments of uncertainty and Frank's system for pressing is disjointed causing more of those moments than is practical. There isn't any real reason for that to be broken at this point if Frank were capable of fixing it.

So while I do get the solidity part of this and it has been big for us this season I just don't really see where the next step is going to happen at. And it does need to happen. Soon.

Last season we had the same number of wins as Palace who finished 12th and only one less than Brighton who finished 9th.

Turning a few losses into draws would have made for a far more comfortable season and hopefully will do this year with results like yesterday. Painful on the eyes but probably necessary.
I imagine we'll also be turning wins into draws however and you lose more than you gain like that.

It’s not going to happen this season so you’ll be disappointed if you’re expecting it soon. This season, with the players we have, we’re exactly where I expected us to be.

Our attacking players are some of the poorest and least consistent in the league. It’s a process and unfortunately because of previous waste we’re having to do it but at a time.

Next summer Frank will prioritise creativity and goals to add into the team. If he achieves the same uptick with attacking recruitment as he has done in making us more solid/competitive this season then next season we’ll improve again.

…I think it was mainly down to the fans protesting that forced the club into acquiring Lampard.

So far we have not capitulated like the many matches last season. We have ourselves far away from those performances of which were the most embarrassing I've seen.
The change in mentality is most notable that comes from the squad management. Although think we should be two points better off, forest game was the let down for me. However, again we are so much better than last season.

This may be all about terminology, but acceptable does not mean good.

52 points is not the impossibliilty that you are making out. Is it unlikely? Sure, but that's why it's a challenge. At the start of the season would you have pegged Newcastle to be a CL quality team? When Arsenal were all at sea in the early part of last season, did you think that they would be top of the league 12 months later? They have improved because their fans would not just lie down and accept "oh well, this is the best we can hope for."

45 points wouldn't be seen as progress for me. That's basically just 2 extra wins from a 38 game schedule, after one of the most turbulent and bottom-of-the-barrel seasons we've ever had. I'm NOT lying down and accepting that this is the best we can hope for. I'm effing tired of thinking that mediocrity is acceptable and we shouldn't strive for more. /fvck that. I'm done with being mediocre.
Newcastle were fully expected to be up in the top half and pushing for 6th/7th. And that's where they will likely end up.

Arteta and arsenal is the prime example of needing to give the manager time. Lots of their fans wanted arteta gone during the past few years. All at sea? Won 7 and drew 2 of their first 12. Only losing to Chelsea, City and Liverpool. But last season was improvement after finishing 8th twice on the bounce. But they stuck with Arteta despite that being their lowest positions since 94/95.

That's what's needed. To back Lampard through this period. It takes time to build the squad and implement the style.

If it was a joke it wasn't funny. Also don't understand why you would make light of fellow supporters of your own team struggling financially. Especially when our club is in Liverpool which has some of the most deprived areas in the country and I would assume there's a significant number of supporters who do struggle to afford to attend the match.

Not sure why anyone on here would defend a "joke" like that.

At least we have a manager now who actually cares enough about us to engage with the support.
I think we can be offended if we seek to be sometimes. He was not exactly saying poverty is funny was he? A few years ago I just avoided bankruptcy through business guarantees and had to give up my season ticket on top of selling my house. He has not offended me.

Yes agreed, that bit is above our pay grade and hopefully within the management teams. It is probably about another transfer window or two. I think it is a marker of an improving team, we are just on a slower trajectory than Newcastle

We look far more conservative away from home then home tactically to my eye - thats not illogical really, we couldn't buy a point away from home last year and ultimately that point total take home undermined the season. I know its not linear but trends are important.

We just dont have that player to make something out of nothing - or rather who can do it consistently. Its four games until another window.

Im not even being funny but Townesend coming back gives us something a little bit different creatively to, he has a direct style.

Tactically what can be done, is the players need to work their socks off in the final third in terms of support play - its what we saw Vs Palace.

Fulham are 7th, ultimately its a good away point.

The only thing with that is Lampard had Townsend for a bit before the injury and didn't really use him so I'm not expecting him to be anything more than an option off the bench tbh and we really need more than that. We just need to plod through these few games and hope Thelwell has a couple of bodies lined up for January.

Think onana can do the counter attack was one of the first games he had got a goal from him breaking into the box. Then hopefully garner in the mid 3 for us to be able to use the ball better. I can see looking for another 2 atleast in jan a winger and attacking mid to help link the play like he tried with ali
