We didn’t gamble over 3m.
We pulled out because a global pandemic hit and no one knew what was going to happen.
We chose not to gamble over 25m in the midst of a global health crisis that shut the entire developed world down for 3 months.
When things approached normality the situation had changed.

but, but, but, but...........Brands out booooooooo

any sensible person knows the approach we took was correct, far too many unknown variables at play with the pandemic

Then why did we not suspend the £500 million stadium project if we were that concerned over finances?

Liverpool did over their new stand.

But apparently the club were that scared of going bankrupt they pulled the plug on a £25 million deal whilst still plowing ahead with a £500 million stadium project.

Something there doesn't add up to me.

are you absolutely serious with this statement

Blokes sadly out of his depth
LOL

We matched the price they wanted he's chose a London club in Europe ...shocked.

Gabriel ....is he that good ?
If he was how come they didnt slap 50 mil price on him.
The lad has had one good season been pretty ordinary upto then

Could very well be a bullet dodged .
No blame to Brands whatsoever here.

You're miffed cos your "source lollollol " said it was happening....get over it.

Do you genuinely believe it’s more important that we sign Gabriel instead of proceed with a new stadium on the Liverpool waterfront.

Because time horizon is important.
What do you think was riskier in terms of a capital investment given the pandemic? One with a time horizon of 4 years or one with a time horizon of 50?

When will the funds be required for a stadium? When would they be required for a player?

The stadium project can be delayed. A players career can’t. We had no idea when football would be back short term. Longer term is much more predictable.

It adds up fine if you think about it logically.

I think there's merit to the argument that the stadium has been the number one priority, and it has been detrimental to how we've performed on the pitch.

But so much hard work will have gone into the stadium and it seems to be progressing well, so to consider pulling the plug to buy a centre back is ludicrous to be honest.

It's OK, we might still get Everton...

Oh wait...

Honestly, I don't think a 22 year old Brazilian gives one about playing for Ancelotti. I know that may hurt some around here but it's true. He wouldn't of grown up when Ancelotti was at the peak of his powers at Milan for a start.
Maybe, but maybe a manager known for bringing through some of the best Brazilians in Europe might be?
Everyone knows kaka, Thiago Silva etc

I would imagine Gabriel has spoken with the interested clubs managers + Brazilian players who play(ed) under them and also Pepe at Arsenal.

It seems that all of Ancelottis former high profile Brazilians and Richarlison all love him so i would imagine thats a pull. He was also managing top sides as Gabriel was growing up.

£22 Million.

Brands masterclass.
I just think our fans make too many excuses for the clubs failures.

We never achieve because there is no pressure from the top down nor from the fans to improve and those who do voice concerns are labelled bed wetters etc.

The facts at this stage look to be:

1. we had him in our grasp at £25 million in February

2. We pulled out when the pandemic hit to renegotiate the fee

3. Other clubs started sniffing around and we've fallen down the pecking order.

4. Other said clubs look to be closing in on £22 million

So essentially we gambled over £3 million and lost. Thats pish poor if he was our main CB target - not like we were negotiating over millions whats £3 million in the grand scheme of things to a PL side in the top 20 richest clubs in Europe?

The blokes out of his depth and sooner he's booted for me the better. I was willing to give him this summer to make a judgement but he keeps making rookie mistakes in the market.

What also happened to him trying to scout these supposed unknown gems from S. America?

The pressure is definitely on him to deliver this window. Gabriel is a lower fee than both Mina and Keane so its very bizarre.
