That is where the whole "22m" is coming from. Arsenal agree a deal but reporter states Gabriel not yet decided.

For the record I cant see him choosing us over Arsenal, understandably.

The facts at this stage look to be:

1. we had him in our grasp at £25 million in February

2. We pulled out when the pandemic hit to renegotiate the fee

3. Other clubs started sniffing around and we've fallen down the pecking order.

4. Other said clubs look to be closing in on £22 million

So essentially we gambled over £3 million and lost. Thats pish poor if he was our main CB target - not like we were negotiating over millions whats £3 million in the grand scheme of things to a PL side in the top 20 richest clubs in Europe?

The blokes out of his depth and sooner he's booted for me the better. I was willing to give him this summer to make a judgement but he keeps making rookie mistakes in the market.

What also happened to him trying to scout these supposed unknown gems from S. America?

The facts ARE or the facts AREN'T mate.

If you're going to say 'the facts look to be' then what youre actually saying is 'none of this is fact I'm just going off what I've read'

In fact, I'd go as far as to say that not a single one of those things you have mentioned is a fact lol

If it was me I'd be looking at the manager + the players + the package on offer.

Arsenal have Pepe + Martinelli who he may be mates with and also Arteta who is very highly rated.

For me though Ancelotti who has managed some of the worlds greatest centre backs and Richarlison, Brazils new star would be more of a pull.

We dont know the financial packages on offer though, whats been promised and whats been said.

We decided to renegotiate once the Pandemic took hold because of complete uncertainty around sports ability to continue.

Football has continued and now other clubs have decided to show interest. We, along with those other clubs have had a bid accepted for the player but he's currently favouring playing for a club in London that have European football rather than Everton, but nothing as yet has been confirmed.

I'm not sure where the 'Brands has messed this up' or 'hes out of his depth' have come from. Just seems like a standard negotiation based upon circumstances and we aren't as attractive as other clubs.

The only thing that is clear really is that he had a medical before COVID, Covid hit and we pulled out due the uncertainty.. Most of it seems speculation but it appears we are well back in for him, but unfortuantely bigger clubs have had that chance to come in and it's cost us. Can't blame the club for being cautious, always a risk that with a talented player, bigger clubs come asking sooner or later.

Would still like to see another CB brought in , older more experienced.
Would bring Holgate & Branthwaite on big time.

He can sign him before that. Bit like Chelsea had agreed deals with players before the season closed.
 
Regardless of any apparent bid in February or March, we couldn't sign him till now/August anyway when the window opened. Other teams have joined the race. We have been on both sides of this in the past, getting players who were on the verge of joining someone else and missing out when other teams came knocking. It's the way of the world, and until its signed, nothing is final. Unless you want Brands to kidnap him, lock up somewhere for 6 months and make sure noone gets the opportunity, i don't see what else you think he could've done.

Its fume for fume's sake.

If we had signed him unchallenged, his detractors would've just said "Why wasn't anyone else interested? Another dud." He literally can't win.
