AgreedWest Ham
It's always West Ham.
I’d rather promote a youngster, being some much needed money in and get a high earner off the books.I hope Carlo see's the reason.
Injuries & suspensions my guess.
Most teams have 4 senior centre halfs.
to keep the grand old team dot com machine runningWhy do you all believe everything on the internet
Really? Second only to central midfield for me.
Yeah maybe. Branthwaite will be 18 for the entire season though. If he's good enough to potentially play 10/15 games at centre half for us in the PL at 18 then the sky is the limit really, he would have to be a truly exceptional talent, literally a once in a generation player. I'm not saying he's not obviously, but I don't think there's that much evidence that he is.
I think we've been very lucky with injuries with our CB's this season, I mean we've suffered badly in Midfield with injuries but still.Murmerings seem to suggest thats the plan for him. I mean read into it what you will. The thing is, this season I can't think of a single game we'd have required a 4th choice CB. So it seems a reasonable position to leave to chance.

RB/RM??
Yep, we need all of those things really. But in my opinion central defence would be ahead of everything apart from central midfield in the pecking order. I've said it before but I think people are forgetting that once we upgrade the midfield we're not going to be offering the same level of protection to the centre halves as we have over the last few games. Everyone keeps saying they want box to box players and creativity, you think they're going to patrol in front of Keane and Mina all game to save them getting turned? No chance. Monday highlighted that we've still got the exact same problems we always did there, Holgate got booked and injured trying to cover because we were at sixes and sevens as soon as someone got some space to run at us. Son got into a great position and got a good shot away unchallenged in the second half because one straight long ball gets you right in behind us as soon as we're not sitting deep in a line anymore.Think we need multiple CMs. Wingers. Another CF. Full backs. Gk.
We've been lucky with injuries there this season. Even this week, Holgate has got injured just as Mina came back, one game earlier and we'd have been playing Martina there. Holgate and Jagielka started 8 PL games at centre half between them last year, and came on in a few more. The season before, 6 different players started games at centre half. You're one Gbamin type injury from having a top flight debutant as your only back up for the entire season basically. It would be risky, but if money's tight there may be no option. We have yes, but most seasons you rarely require a 4th choice CB to play much. The season before, how much did Holgate have to play? As a club, without Europe I'm not sure we can justify holding a 4th, highly paid, expensive CB.
Just had an excellent season for joey bartons team hasn't he?Thought Lewis Gibson was the next big thing, what's happened to that?
