'Tis the season for planting and nurturing vegetables in the feeble hope of getting a miniscule return.

I read a small article which said that if you put ripe banana peel in a large jar, cover them with water, leave for a couple of weeks, you have liquid fertiliser for your toms. Anybody ever tried/heard of this, and if so, is it worth doing ?

I've got a ton of coffee grounds, can you put them in the compost bin ?
Yep .....leave to rot for a while though plus turn your compost heap twice per year at least .....use as a mulch on your garden ....to suppress weeds holding moisture etc ....

You can place your banana plat outside sheltered in the summer feed well & kept it moist at all times in the summer reverse the process in the summer indoors & dry out - propagate by dividing the suckers off the main stem ....
I actually was asking about whether I could use banana peel as fertiliser if soaked in a pot of water, thanks anyway. :)

Don't forget to earth them up are they earys mids or lates ? As soon as they flop dig your spuds up and keep cool & dry .....
Yeah we’ve been monitoring the spuds daily and taking action as needed. They’re late ones.

You live relatively near me if I’m correct mate? I’m just off Queens Drive in Stoneycroft near the Jolly Miller so our weather will be the same.

Depends on the variety on the three types - the golden rule is let them flower & flop then harvest your spuds ;)
Avoid a garden fork when lifting as you can spike them hand pull or use a spade & rake

Not really best herbal fertilisers nettles crushed in water & left to rot high nitrogen fertiliser or Comfre the same when in flower rot in water high potassium.....use large buckets with an improvised lid on the bucket weighed down ....
Leave for 6 weeks - 25 percent to a watering can mix well with a cane as good as anything on the shop counter other than the comfre stinks ......to high heaven if you feed have an instant shower & wash your clothes .....

Is that just ordinary nettles, or some fancy dan nettles ?
