Forums are a modern day Chinese Whisper routine. I have heard that Barry also gets petrol money (in the form of vouchers) for driving to training. Apparently, this was the deal clincher (the AUD 1,000,000/wk was just a sweetner).
On other serious matters, I have just found out that that bloke from Wigan, the chairman like, has a gammy leg....has anybody else heard this?

Waste of money imo when we could have bought a younger player in who would give us resell value.

Martinez had been talking before the window closed about bringing in the right character who can help the dressing room. Judging by his interview on the OS, he is extremely affable. He's been in England teams, he's won titles, cups, and he straight away said we should be aiming for top 4. This I like.

I really like how I truly believe Martinez is aiming for the top 4. Moyes always pointed to excuses and his 'achievements' previously and played it down in recent seasons.

The more i think about his signing - the more it appeals to me overall could actually be a very clever move, in fact thinking of him over the years hes been an exceptional player.

He kind of reinvented himself at City as a defensive midfielder, but i remember him at Villa being a huge attacking threat, inclusive of goals and assists - obviouly he never got that oppurtunity and fulfilled a different role at City with their offensive players, but its in his locker.

Actually thinking back i remember him playing left back, centre half, left wing and Dm - superbly versatile player but with product and expierence of winning trophies.

He was one of the best box-to-box midfielders in the Premier League when he was at Villa and reinvented himself to be one of the best holding players in the league at City. The most amazing thing is that we've signed a player whose previous club fans would unanimously tell you he's a great player and essentially for no fee. Has a great passing range with that left peg.

"because i consider him the best defensive midfielder in the league, by far"

Straight from a City forum that they all seem to rate him very highly and most are gutted that he has left.

Bit of a bold statement but i do think he will be a Gibson type signing, albeit very short lived as he is very old but provides experience in midfield for the time being.

Couldn't agree more, Barry is exactly the character we need in the dressing room and he completely won me over from my dubiousness when he said top 4 (Martinez did the same).

I remember really really liking Moyes up until the point last season when he said we were realistically not looking at champions league places when we were only about a point away from Arsenal and Spurs. That is when I lost all sadness at the thought of him not signing a new contract.

what ever we have paid he is a free agent in 12 months time so if he plays well he has th option to return to City {which I doubt because of his age}so if he is happy here and playing well we will renegotiate his wages and sign him on a free will a short contract - On the other hand if he is poor we are stuck with him, but I have a feeling he has 2 seasons left in him !
