I'm a big Barry fan and was glad we signed him as once he can't play midfield can see him moving to CB or being sold to the MLS. After a slow start think he was fine this season up until two bad tackles messed up his ankle.

However he hasn't been great the past few games. Whether that is due to his injury, the Besic/Barry partnership not clicking or him just being in a rut I don't know. I'm hoping it is e middle one as that is the easiest to solve.

Fully agree with you !

Be
Lets get Reid n bracewell back then ???? People arnt wrong wanting us to sign a player, performing and then not wanting him in team when he's not !!!! That's what is wrong with football in general, fans n media living on Names n past Glories, that's why England are a joke n always will be !!!!

Couldnt agree more.

It's a shame that it's turning out like this for Barry in his second season but the person I blame most for him putting in bad performances at the moment is Martinez. Barry can't help the age catching up with him. Martinez needs to show some balls and realise that this season he just hasn't been good enough and should only be used if we desperately need him. All this rotation to accommodate the likes of Barry and Osman who have done well in the past but are now too old to be starting is ridiculous. Especially when we have two young lads in the middle (not even counting McCarthy) who have shown they are fully capable of playing in that position.

Only Martinez can do Barry a favour at the moment. Take him out of the firing line and put him on when he's needed. It's not working out for him at the moment playing the full 90 mins.

This whole Barry thing is reminiscent of Neville's last season under Moyes which came to a head in the embarrassing Wigan defeat. Lets hope Martinez has the balls to take Barry out now as he is slowing play down even more at the moment (which is difficult to do as we are super slow anyway) Barry still has a role to play but it is not starting every game at the moment that is for sure.

Martinez isn't to blame for Barry's bad form. There's no way he can be. Barry is to blame for that, however it's up to Martinez to give him time out the team and hopefully get him back to form.

Barry has the same affliction Coleman has, playing in close proximity to McCarthy is preferred, when it's not the case it's like they are playing without their top gear as an option.

I disagree to be honest. I accept Barry has given the ball away frequently recently which is obviously his fault but the biggest thing in his game letting him down at the moment is him getting caught on the ball. That's down to age and not being able to get away from players quickly enough. It's come to the point where he can't be starting games unless we have no one else. The same goes for Distin, which is why he has been playing recently because there has been no one else. Now Stones is fit enough to be on the bench, Distin needs dropping.

3 year deal is stupid.

That's vaulting material if I ever saw it.

Seriously though. Why do people crack on players getting three years at 33? It's not like he was injury prone, slowing down, showing signs of age. If any of that was clearly evident, then yes, three years would have been a year too long.

Also, I figure that it wasn't the wages so much as that this would be his last contract and whoever offered him three years was probably going to win the deal.

Barry's loss of form coincides with Mc carthy having a injury disrupted season so far. When you have a machine like mc carthy covering every blade of grass it allows barry to do what does best i.e. read the game and get into the perfect position to disrupt attacks before they start. I have to say his form is not as good as last year but which everton player has performed well this season?

I don't see how you can disagree that it's Barry's fault for being poor? He needs McCarthy next to him, Besic is too similar

The 3 year deal thing isn't a problem IMO. If he can't hack it by the end of the season, he'll be off to the US for a low fee I reckon.

Just hope he finds some form soon, and that Martinez rotates him a bit more once McCarthy's fit to play.

He was always carried by McCarthy. If he's fully fit and in form he's a decent player with good players around him. When he's out of form and unfit and doesn't have McCarthy with him he's one of the worst players in the side. He's been absolutely horrendous this season. Baffling to think that we have Barkley Besic and McCarthy what should be a fantastic midfield trio yet one of our main problems is our midfield is too slow because its always Barry plus one other (could well have been Osman if he was fit *shudders*). We should have one of the most youthful dynamic aggressive midfields in the league yet we have one of the slowest and most laborious. I gave up on the Southampton game as soon as the team sheet came out because it had Barry, Distin and Etoo on. Too old and too slow to all play away from home in the same team. These are squad options who should be filling gaps or coming off the bench, not first choice players for every away game.

Was hoping that Gibson would be fit, at least for rotation, before this as would have been nice if we could have had two partnerships - one of mcCarthy/Barry and the other of Gibson/Besic. Both offer a nice blend of energy and experience and we could have switched between them to ensure no-one got worn out.

Barkley and Besic worked out well vs QPR so perhaps we'll play that more often at home against similar sides.
