Ideally your looking at Besic and McCarthy to take over in centre mid, IF they can do the type of role Martinez wants though is up for debate, McCarthy offers a lot of endeavour but nothing going forward the other player really has to be able to contribute to that part of the game - something it looks like Besic CAN do.

Problem being though is Barry is the bloke who is charged with starting the moves from the back, McCarthy isn't capable of doing that so has to be Besic in that role with McCarthy becoming a true out and out defensive mid, any central player we sign would ideally be capable of playing either role so if we miss one of Besic or McCarthy then they can slot into the missing players role and we can keep the way we play intact.

Tough to find such a player though as your looking at the type of player every team would like to have there...

IF he can stay fit though then think Besic out of all three is the long term key to the central mid and the one we need to find who works well with him be it McCarthy or a new player

I'd still like to see Ross moved further back. Might involve playing differently with more of a box to box midfield running game than moving teams around with short passing.

It was interesting to hear Moyes on Saturday saying when Ross was younger, he was the nearest player he'd seen to Bryan Robson, box to box and a good tackler. I wonder the leg breaks he had have changed his way of thinking, and made him more of the attacking player we see now.

Been oft mooted that he will eventually move deeper, but until his defensive side improves can never see him going to form a midfield two any time soon mate, especially with Martinez preferring two defensively minded cm's

Heard and read similar things, if it is so then hardly a surprise given just how bad the injury was

i remember when he was about 16 seeing a little page in one of our match programs about him and he listed his best three attributes as heading, tackling and passing, they wouldn't be the three attributes we'd link to him now, definitely not the tackling and heading.

Just don't think he's ready for that yet he seems to dawdle on the ball too long when he does that.

Today showed he's just better when he has to be quick and incisive further up field
