I think my last post on him would have seemed a bit harsh. I never meant it to be.
He was the standout player for us in a relatively strong year group (not as strong as the current under 17's/18's.)
What he lacked for me though was a way to transfer the skills into the men's game. This can be seen by how he hasn't really dominated the under 21's as you might expect. I think a part of that for Green is that he has outgrown the Everton academy somewhat and needs to be out playing men's football. It will teach him the grass isn't always greener, but also help him grow into someone ready to play men's football.
People are right to point out Harry Kane and that he wasn't in the first team at Spurs until he was a year beyond what Green is. However for every game there are a dozen Baxters, Kissocks etc who were very highly thought of and never quite hit the heights.
What strikes me about Kane is that he worked exceptionally hard (Redknap spoke of this the other day) and that went on loan a lot, and while his goal ratio wasn't always outstanding clearly took something from each one, a resilience as it were.
As I said before Tranmere is a brilliant loan for Green. It was a top class goal and he took responsibility which is brilliant. I hope they stay up and we can loan him back again, and then if he excels get him towards a championship team. There was an earlier poster on here who spoke about him needing to be "sharp" and I agree. I have always felt he lacked a hard to be "make it" (at Everton) but this is something that with hard work and application can be improved.
Anyway good to see him score a fantastic goal, long may it continue.
