Gerard Deulofeu - Once a Blue, always a Blue

Cuenca is a reasonable winger but no more. He did okay in the first team for a short while becausr he was an unknown quantity and basically because Barça were by far the best team in the world so it was hard to look bad. He is however a bit of a one trick pony and will not be in Barças plans for the future.

Deulofeu on the other hand is considered the best prospect since Messi...the first youth player since him that can change and win a game on his own.

The only issue is whether he can learn some humility and learn how to be more of a team player...when to lay it off and when to try beat three defenders on your own.

Can't wait to see him tonight!

Made a very good impression, pleasing to see that he's taken things on board in such a short time. He's gone from not closing down or chasing back at all, to working hard off the ball about 50% of the time. If he can get that to 100% he'll be a super little player.

I thought he did ok tonight but seems a bit of a one trick pony in the first half, constantly trying to beat his man before crossing. Seemed to expand his horizons more the second half.

Yeah, I don't think that will come off against any decent full back in the top flight. A good debut nevertheless.

He's definitely got something to offer this season, more so after Christmas I'd say when he's fully adjusted. His decision making is naive at times and his work off the ball still leaves a lot to be desired.

Shouldn't go unnoticed that he's got a fantastic delivery into the box as well. Worth bringing him on in the last 20 minutes of games for that alone.

Reminds me of Drenthe at the minute a liability but a match winner at that. If he can improve his team play he will fit in nicely.

Yep, double feints to go inside then pushes outside, if we can see it I'm damn sure every Prem full back will.

Oddly his goal come from coming inside although he was chasing the ball rather than choosing to go that way - still, the boy has real ability.

Bill, he had no options but to try and beat the man he had hibbert behind him who offered absolutely nothing in the game. i thought he put some excellent crosses in and gave their defence a torrid time.

Good point this - a few opportunities to play with Coleman giving a genuine overlap (or when he switches wings, Baines) and he'll create havoc.

All we need is someone with the ability to tuck havoc into the back of the net!

Plus it's very good knowing what a player will do but another stopping him. He has a really good initial turn of pace and whilst he won't beat PL full backs every time, he will give them problems. Teams will not be able to leave him on his own which will create space anyway. Main criticism I would have is he is very one footed for a player with such a big reputation. Compare him to Barkley and its night and day between them where using both feet was concerned.

He will also stop opposition fullbacks committing to attack because of his pace, this will help us control the game.

Its the reason he's here...Barcelona trust Martinez to get the kid thinking right. He has already started to try and do a defensive shift, and that will get better. Decision making will come with experience and the right words from Roberto. Don't under estimate the value of Barcelona and Martinez having a good working relationship, more could come of it in the future.
