Gerard Deulofeu - Once a Blue, always a Blue

Auto correct, but you're English is very good for a Spanish lad:)

Zinger.

@FCBarça why persist? There is no issue with occasional posts from fans of other football clubs and I think there is a Spurs fan who comes on here when we play the Spuds who has the occasionally level headed debate.

However, you are constantly highjacking this thread. I come on here to see what the general consensus on Gerard is and all I read is you making pointless arguments based on garbage you read in translated spanish red tops.
Your interest is aligned with your (likely uninformed) view of what is best for "your" football club, while we are all looking for the best interests of EFC. You seem to have a moderate level of intelligence but your condescending and often arrogant tone shows you don't understand this.

Pack it in, you're doing everyones head in.

502 minutes is simply unacceptable, IMO...Doesn't mean he has to be a regular starter

I felt the sub in the last match with seconds left was a disgrace...I do think, apart from his injury that has obviously affected his form, there's something else going on behind the scenes in terms of how he's been used...Whether that's all down to Roberto or some agreement with Barcelona, no idea...but it should be far more than 502 minutes

If you've been watching our games recently you will have noticed that Barkley has barely been used up until recently. Like Barkley, Deulofeu has a tendency to give the ball away in dangerous areas (when Del came on against Arsenal he gave the ball away about 5 times in 5 minutes). He's a cracking talent, absolutely no doubt about that, but I think the amount of time Martinez has given him has been about right all things considered. I don't think he's ready to go back to Barca next season, largely for his ball retention, or lack of it, but then he could be very useful for you as an impact sub.

Is the implication here that Everton is Barcelona quality?

As for the injury, he had about 340 minutes in December at the time of the injury - even then it was illogical how little he was being used

Our form up to december was excellent and the whole country was talking about how well we played. We had no reason to change that for a kid who was just bedding into a new country and new surroundings. That's completely logical.

Then he got injured. The type of injury you don't rush players back from, especially when they don't belong to you. He's working his way back to contention. If you had your eyes open you'd know that all our wingers have been rotated regularly.

I expect him to play a good part in tonights game BTW.

I think your rating him as highly as you do because you know the potential. What he's actually done on the pitch has been hit and miss for Everton, which is all we care about.

In comparison Stones has had the 652 minutes and is IMO as big a prospect as Gerard + we will actually benefit from his development.

Getting back on track, I'd like to see the spaniard on early today, I think when he only has a few minutes he tries too hard to make an impact, nothing wrong with that, he is here to prove a point. Given a little more time he can relax knowing he's more likely to get a chance to impress.

Pretty much.

502 minutes, 3 starts - 3 goals, 1 assist, goal/assist every 125 minutes

Lukaku - 1756 minutes, 20 starts: 11 goals, 4 assists, goal/assist every 117 minutes

Mirallas - 2042 minutes, 25 starts: 5 goals, 7 assists, goal/assist every 170 minutes

Deulofeu has more successful dribbles per game, less turnovers and dispossessed less

Think you are being a bit disingenous here with those stats.

we had 3 games early in Dec - Man Utd away, arsenal away and Fulham at home. Despite the first ones being two of our most important games of the season he was a significant sub in each and in the fulham game he was a starter and only went off cos he pulled his hammy. In the Stoke game on 30th Nov he played the full 90.The other 3 games in Dec he couldn't play because of the same injury but in Nov he actually had more game time than Barkley.

Struggling to believe what I'm reading here.

Firstly, he's a great talent. Full of natural ability with the ball at his feet. I've enjoyed some of his performances this season.

Personally, I have no issue at all with how he has been used however. He was nowhere near ready to be playing in The Premier league when he got here and Martinez was bedding him in slowly. Around December time he was beginning to play a bigger role in the side. He got injured at a dreadful time for both Everton and him - we were already stretched by injuries and we could really have done with him over that period, especially since he had been just starting to contribute properly. Since he came back he hasn't done much in his fleeting appearances to look like he merits a starting role. We have 4 wide players at the club currently, there's a role for Deulofeu - especially since Pienaar is injured and Mirallas is badly lacking in form, but Ged isn't doing enough to force his way in currently.

His defensive work is practically non-existent and his passing is well below par, especially since he's such an acclaimed graduate of La Maisa. These are the areas I would guess Barca have been hoping would develop while he's been here, but if we're being completely honest they haven't. He's got by at times by his ability to go past a man. He does this better than probably anyone else we have in the squad, but at times it's not enough.

I would say that currently he is disappointing me more than at any point he's been here. In the beginning he was settling in, then his injury happened and since he got back he's had the excuse of needing to build up sharpness etc. The problem is though that we've got 3 other players he's competing with and he's not done anywhere near enough in his recent appearances (however brief some of them have been) to merit being picked. We actually really could do with him showing some form at the moment as push for Europe, but he's not doing enough with the chances he has to merit starting games more.

I hope he stays for another season as I think he'd be much better off next year after having a season under his belt here, but if he doesn't then I've got to be honest and say it won't be a huge loss as I don't think he's done much that we'll miss. Still, the potential is undoubtedly there. I just think he's much further away from being the finished article than the casual observer may think.
