Gerard Deulofeu - Once a Blue, always a Blue

Just been on the Barca forum and a lot of posters don't want him to stay, they want him sent somewhere else. A few because we are not giving him game time but quite a lot think we play 'hoofball'! Now We haven't played the best football against Arsenal and Man U, but our football has been excellent this season and fans of other clubs and pundits alike have been raving over us. They do seem to admire Liverpool's 9 behind the ball, win it back and play a quick ball up to Sturridge/Suarez to score though.

Just shows that even fans of the once 'pass a team to death' club don't know what good football is.

I'm actually kind of disappointed with Deulofeu. I don't feel as though he has improved as quickly as I expected. He is still a very one footed one trick pony. I see the potential for sure but I would like him try different tactics rather get to the outside and cross every single time. I'd love to see him cut inside more and take a shot like Coleman and Lukaku do. For next season (if he's here) I would like to see him link up with Coleman (that's been his biggest failing for me) and work on his range of passing (a whipped in cross isn't always better than a sly through ball).

I really like the comparison with Ronaldo, now that I think about it they really are two players from the same mold. Deulofeu has the same potential as Ronaldo but does he have the work ethic?

I see what you are saying but I don't think he will ever get near CR level. Will never have the physicality and doesn't have the talent to make up for it. If he reaches his potential can see him being as effective as Robben etc. So still a top baller.

The only knowledgeable fans I know are Evertonians and that ain't me being biased, its fact. Sure we have the odd stray cat but on the whole you can talk to a fellow blue not just about Everton but football in general and have a good debate about things. I should imagine a Barca forum you need a certain dress code to get in and be able to post on it. We have played the least hoofball of any team in the league this season.

yeeah dude! I sit in the corner of the Lower Glwadys where the subs warm up, all the fans have cottoned on now so we always wave when Deulo comes over to warm up.
ahahahhahahaha I didn't know people done it back to him lollol hes boss.

Last thing about this kid, does it get on anyones nerves when people say hes got to track back? Martinez has clearly said to him he doesn't needtoo

I was saying that to the fella who sits next to me during the Palace game. It depends though, the idea is that McCarthy supports Coleman, leaving Deulo free for the counter. But there were times when McCarthy was on the other side of the pitch and Coleman was over-exposed. I think that's a situation were he should track back, but for the most part I'm in agreement with you.

Depends what you mean by "track back".

Do I think he should run half the pitch to make a great tackle - probably not although he did it brilliantly against West Ham (?) and I remember him getting a yellow for a good professional foul to stop an Arsenal breakaway in the dying minutes of the emirates league game so he certainly has it in his locker.

But to make every effot to win the ball back within 10yards after a defender has taken it off him when Coleman is out of position having done the overlap - yes I think he should try to. Otherwise it is Coleman or McCarthy who have to bust a gut to stop the break

I'd put some money down that extent of their Barcelona knowledge is limited to when they started playing FIFA

If we did get him for another season it would be wonderful I'd imagine the loan fee and wages would be fairly cheap. Also with Barca potentially spending big in the summer I don't think he would get much game time there unless they wanted to loan him to a lower level La Liga club I could definitely see him staying here.

Good news for us - whether it's from the start or from the bench, he offers something 'unique'. Very handy player to have around for another year.
