Gerard Deulofeu - Once a Blue, always a Blue

LOL...he's not as good as you think he is...or...La Liga really is shyte. I think it's a combination of the two...while I enjoyed having him here last year, he was vastly out of his depth most of the time...he's got skillz like, and he's got that pace thing that can't be trained...but he is so far from the finished product. Hope he makes it though...would be another boss thing to put on our CV...not convinced though

*edit* nothing bitter there mate
No, mate.

He had a couple of poor games. But the kid is lightening. He took Stoke home, and Newcastle away by the scruff. He was doing it at Goodison against Fulham as well before his injury.

He got hurt as soon as he had a decent run of games and never quite got back to his best for us, but the kid is brilliant and I'd have him here in a second.

You said in a year or two he would be a clear starter.

Hes not going to start ahead of Neymar/Suarez/Messi in any of the front 3 positions. So hes going to be a backup player for the next 5 years it seems

That's my prediction, a year or two from being a regular starter...At Barcelona, the competition isn't merely for the starting XI but being part of the rotation since the club plays 50-60 matches a season which is why I pointed out the designation of starter is meaningless...Even Iniesta didn't start all matches last season, what does that reflect then?

Rotation or not, no quality player would stay where hes not first choice.

Iniesta, Pedro, Neymar, Bartra, Alba et al did not start every match or were outside the top 11 in terms of minutes...yet they are going nowhere...At the biggest clubs, that distinction is irrelevant...Deulofeu is at the club of his dreams, in the city & region he was born and has rebuffed big money offers to stay since he was 14 years of age

@FCBarça

There have been some rumblings that he may be back here on loan in January. What are your thoughts on that possibility?

You'd have to imagine that if Barca truly rates him they'd want him to get on the pitch more than he may after Suarez returns. The first choice clearly doesn't include him once Suarez returns.

Probably a pipe dream. I rate the kid personally, and think a lot here would be more forgiving if he was ours.

I'm surprised by the rumour, tbh...I've come across nothing in terms of the usually reliable sources related to my club...Of course, that doesn't exclude the possibility, just would surprise me

Lucho knows the player well and Deulofeu's comments since his return suggests he figures prominently in the new coach's plans...Two seasons ago, I never would've expected him to be ready at this point in time for a role in the first team much less last summer when the loan was revealed to Everton...But, I saw how easily he went at defenders in the Premiership and I realized that we could've used a bit of that last season tbh

He's young so there will be a learning curve but I think the thinking is that he's already a terrific attacking player, it's always been about his defensive responsibilities...Since Lucho is a task master, Gerard probably understands quite well that if he isn't a complete player he will find himself on the bench...Moreover, I am certain the coach will rotate more than under Tata or Tito as he shares a similar approach to Pep as far as the cantera and rotation is concerned

The only scenario where I could envision Deulofeu going back out on loan (Because he will not be sold) is in January, should he fail to impress or Adama/Munir proves to be more effective...Gerard will get ample opportunities to show his qualities and despite how boastful it may sound, he has exceeded expectations at every stage of his career...So I am confident he will become a regular rotation player for Barcelona

I agree though that, when fully fit and cleared to play, Lucho will play Neymar-Suarez-Messi as the attacking trident to start most matches but Pedro & Deulofeu will see a lot of minutes too

Won't happen, Lucho intends to fully rotate and has coached the player before...Deulofeu will play a significant role despite being a year or two away from being a regular starter

I hope for your sake mate that Gerry doesn't get loaned back to us for another season or six months. If that happens you're going to get vaulted into oblivion !

I haven't professed to be 100% accurate with my predictions as I've only given my opinions but as far as Gerard is concerned and my time as a member in the forum, my assessments have been pretty valid

I think you could have a boy crush on him. Absolutely no doubt in my mind.

I could have guessed FCBarca rates Deulofeu as one of the players he least likes on the Barca squad.

You know, the whole being on an Everton forum, with a Deulofeu avatar mostly gave it away.

I'll see your LOL and raise you a DÖPPELOL. Deufoleu is clearly a talented young fellow, and the poor standard of La Liga football will no doubt come as a surprise to last seasons's two Champions League finalists and Europa League winners.
