The most striking moment of Roberto Martinez’s first season in charge of Everton came during a draw.
As the Christmas holiday period drew near, Everton faced a challenging test against a strong Arsenal side. The Toffees were in the midst of an excellent campaign that would see them finish fifth, and this fixture represented an opportunity to earn three points against a Champions League team.
The game was rather lackluster until a certain right winger was introduced. Gerard Deulofeu entered the game in the second half and made an immediate impact. He had no fear and with a mindset to attack, he caused Arsenal all sorts of problems. His goal seemed to be ordained, and it was simply beautiful.
At the end of the season Deulofeu returned to Barcelona, and Everton spent a 2014-15 season devoid of that attacking ability.

Now there has been news that Everton are planning to launch a bid for the youngster, and it would be a much needed move for the club. Deulofeu is greedy, sometimes more than he should be, but sometimes that is needed.
Aaron Lennon showed the importance of a dynamic winger at Goodison Park. It is fair to say that his presence was a catalyst for Everton’s excellent run in to this season. Deulofeu could provide that impact on a more permanent basis, and possibly grow into a special player. He has all sorts of talent, but requires a special hand to manage.
Martinez appears to have the right touch to see the precocious young talent realize his potential.
That transition could see Everton improve on a disastrous campaign. While most of the blame should fall on the defensive midfield play, Everton also must improve the winger play. Steven Pienaar is used up and Kevin Mirallas has a troubled injury history.
Adding Deulofeu is the best solution for Everton.
