Gerard Deulofeu - Once a Blue, always a Blue

Cleverley isn't a holding midfielder. He's been absolute muck anytime he's played there.
He's a number 10... would actually prefer to see Barkley playing deeper. Failing that, I reckon Besic is going to get more games next season.

Also, I reckon we'll sell Mirallas. Podolski would be the likely incoming winger, with the rest of the cash going towards strengthening other areas like that Ragnar Klavan guy at CB.
Cleverly are both box to box midfielder. A midfield 3 with him and Barkley with either Besic or McCarthy holding is pretty strong. With Lennon on one side and Deulofeu on the other that's a very strong side.

However Utd, Arsenal and Chelsea are looking very strong. Hopefully City's slide will accelerate because them and RS are definitely in transition.

It looks exciting, but there is no one there who can actually dictate play the way, for example, Cazorla does.

And Coleman and Baines are going to be horribly exposed behind Deulofeu and Mirallas, giving them little opportunity to go forward.

So, from our existing resources, we would certainly need to play one of Cleverley, Gibson, Osman and Pienaar, and perhaps we should play two of them.
I think that's why I would prefer Lennon over Mirallas although I'm not sure. Barkley I think has the ability to dictate play if played deeper.

I think it would be a missed opportunity if we don't bring back Lennon. I reckon he wants to come back and his defensive cover was a great strength in the second half of the season. If him and Coleman/Baines can develop a partnership then the full backs will improve and become effective again. That was one of our biggest hindrances last season and Mirallas didn't help with that too much.

With Deulofeu reportedly coming back for £3m or so, we should be able to do a deal with Spurs for Lennon that suits both so we can get him in this transfer window.

Bobby has already said he wants Besic in the holding role and McCarthy to push forward more. With the addition of Cleverley, that's your midfield 1-2 in a 4123, quite where that leave Ross is anyone's guess.
It sounds like Cleverly will play on the wing like Osman often does and Ross will stay where he is.

Which I hate to say does look like a Martinez formation.

It will still be much better than last year but I still can see scoring being a problem.

So if this does come off and we don't sell all our best players like the media hope then I see no excuse for a poor season next season. Our starting 11 could possibly be:

-------------------Robles------------------

Coleman-----Jagielka---Stones----Baines

Deulofeu-----McCarthy----Besic-----Mirallas

------------------Barkley---------------------

-------------------Lukaku---------------------

I'd like us to bring in Lennon too and i'm also not convinced McCarthy and Besic can play together so we could do with a creative centre midfielder too. I'm hoping Barkley can start making progress in a central role next season though.

Cleverley will start....its looking more and more likely that Barkley is getting a message that says ...'no more excuses ,get your finger out and fulfil your potential if you want a starting place.' Roberto can be ruthless at times. I should add, I think quite a few will be getting that message this season.
