Mikey, I thought young Jack was a superb talent, I earmarked that lad for big things.

Whos to say how it would have gone without the injuries? But last time I checked, Jack Rodwell is fairly English and Ross Barkley isnt really that foreign of a name, Wayne Rooney, another 1, wait a minute, Shane Duffy is an exotic name???!?!?!?!?!?

No, Shane Duffy isn't an exotic name. That was my point

If he was called Sanchez Duffullez and we signed him from Osasuna into the youth system, he would have got a lot more time from the usual suspects

As a youth team player, all you can do is wait for a chance to get picked for the senior side and not botch it

Shane did that. He played for the first team and did well. He wasn't amazing, but he was fine

That wasn't enough for the haters

Again, you have to be amazing or you get written off

To bring it back on topic, people have and will turn a blind eye to every single one of Delo's flaws because he's from Barcelona and is a flair player

Players like McAlney won't get that same luxury

Neither deserve it. They both deserve an equal chance and to be held to the same standards

They won't be

Its a fine line how they are developed.

Look at Ball and Vaughan potentially england players but got bad injuries, overplayed?

Dunne is one whose lifestyle maybe penalised him.
Ball was overplayed by Walter. His knee was goosed and Smith was ordering him to play through the pain with injections. Don't think Vaughan was though. Just unlucky. Both could've been regular internationals if fully fit imo

I, stupidly, trust the judgement of our Manager Mikey.

He deemed him not good enough and shipped him out, he saw him everyday in training, he saw him playing for the U21s.

Your acting like the fanbase sold him to Blackburn or didnt pick him in many games.

Read the Ross thread, lots of people are already writing him off and compare it to Atsu, who didnt get any time cos he simply wasnt good enough.

I admit, Duffy always seemed ok when he played for us, but as I said earlier, we never saw him as much as the management and staff of the club did,

Did anyone actually hate Duffy, though?

He came in, did well, there was a small grumble when he was dropped and then he never made it back into the first team after that. I think if he'd been sold straight after he first started getting game, people would have been upset. But instead he went out on loan, he sat on the bench, he played in the cup and it was clear that he wasn't going to become our first choice especially when compared to stones so nobody was that bothered when he left.

Making it into 'our horrible fans drove him out' seems unfair.

Mustafi wasnt really touted on here though and look where he is now.

Ball could have been brilliant. I wonder if rangers ever paid us the whole transfer and installments.

The thing about mustafi though is he went to a serie b team and sat on the bench for a year before he got games.

It's not like he left here and started for barca the next day. He still had to work his way up, he just thought that he'd have a better chance of doing that at another club. It's a shame.

Come on mate. I think you know most of this isn't true.

I don't think I've read as much [Poor language removed] in my life. You're on a wind up aren't you?

I thought it was a little harsh when the Gwladys threw potatoes at him and screamed "We only like paella!"

...have to say that I disagree. Managers will pick the best players because they are in a results game not because of where they come from. I doubt that anybody hated Duffy or McAleney, it's just a realisation that they might not be up to it. You keep on insisting all of these players should have a run of games but we can't use the 1st team for trials.
