All pure speculation at this point anyway, but do Barca actually have the money right now to be competing with the likes of City, Chelsea, Man utd and even Arsenal for any new players, thought I'd seen something about them being in a financial absolute mess?
Speculation indeed. Barca's finances at the income v expenditure level are sound but they have complicated articles setting maximum net debt to EBITDA ratio in their accounts. This seems to mean they won't buy anybody in January but will be open for business again in the summer and their 2016/17 accounts. Mascherano is in his 30s , Vermaelen too and he's not as good as Stones. Trading off Gerri's buyback as part of a deal is something I've contemplated but who knows. Certainly having a good relationship with Barca hasn't done us any harm re Gerri.

We would be daft to not discuss Stones with Barca. We have to accept there is always going to be interest in the player, it is a possibility we might lose him, the more clubs we bring into the bidding can only push the price up.

the state of Manchester City's defence, you would think they must throw their hat in the ring happen we were open to offers next summer.

..interesting point about Stones. Pure conjecture, but reports suggest he is taking Spanish lessons. If he does go it has to be for mega bucks and if it is to Barcelona then we might have some leverage to remove Deleufeu's release clause. Lot of 'ifs' there but you never know what will transpire.

This would be the best outcome we could hope for, realistically.

There seems to be a willingness from Deulofeu to stay, equally I would expect we will lose Stones next summer if we don't make the top 4 (which, let's face it, is unlikely). If Barca could come in with the sort of money we would want, even if they're a few million short of other bidders, but throw Deulofeu's clause into the mix, I think it represents the best deal for all concerned - Stones would suit Barcelona far better than Chelsea, for example.

Have to agree. I want us to keep him but If stones is determined to go, I'd much rather him go out of the prem. 50m and tearing up del's buyback clauses

If he has to go..and I dont want him sold for any money to be honest....I really hope it is to here. It would be some comfort and it would balance out the bitterness over having to watch Suarez, as excellent as he may be.

Come back to us later with a couple of champions league medals in his pocket!
