Gerard Deulofeu

Deserved to be subbed for that childish crying he made when he was rolling around on the floor!

To be serious he was a threat but by the time he came off it was gone, he wasn't having the same affect anymore and was hitting it against one of the two men that were on him all the time. The player he was for the first 45 wasn't the same man he was at the time of going off.

I agree he was making mistakes, but when you say two men were on him all the time... exactly.

Once he went off, that was it - they could afford to keep a static shape and hit on the counter. We lost all threat, and the less said about the pathetic replacement 'footballer' Mirallas in comparison the better.

Also, Kone was just as gone, if not more so, and even at the best of times is nowhere near the same threat.

Deulofeu off at that juncture would only make sense if we were playing for a draw.

Thought Deulofeu being subbed was the correct decision and although Kone probably should have been as well Arouna looked the fresher of the two.

Gerard's had a lot of football recently and think it beginning to show in tiring earlier and losing mental focus a bit - the histrionics are creeping back in. We've got a lot of games coming up and tbh I'd like to see all our attackers subbed more to keep them energetic and their hamstrings healthy.

Probably the most annoying thing about our recent results other than their impact on the table is that we've still been chasing the game in the latter stages rather than coasting to conserve energy. On paper Mirallas should have provided a good replacement to win the game...

Even if Deulofeu had been told to stay on the touchline he was still taking 2 players out of the game...

For how long would he have been doing that though? Gerard was getting increasingly sloppy with his passing and wasn't tracking back as much.

Mirallas should in theory have been a good replacement. He wasn't but should Gerard be run into the ground because of that?

I think Mirallas should have replaced Kone...am a bit unsure why Deulofeu wasnt at least kept on when occupying 2 of their players.

Anyway a like for like substitution i suppose but without the desired effect.

He is going to get the odd the kick and pull here and there and needs to develop the mental toughness to cope with decisions not going his way, I'm sure RM and the coaches will get him through and help him remove this arm waving and foot stamping petulance out of his game, all it does is remove his composure, and give the opposition and their fans a target to aim at. Today, he lost his head/focus and RM was right to sub him when he did. He's a joy to watch, but needs managing/coaching correctly.
