Gerard Deulofeu

I was pretty impressed that he was constantly chasing and pressing so hopefully that level will come. Possibly needs to stay on a few games even when he is shattered. Obviously not last night though.
You'd run the risk of his hamstrings twanging though, they often seem to be the first muscles to go when a player is redlining as Wenger found out with Alexis Sanchez. Better to rotate him during this busy time and work on his fitness over the summer.

Not at his best last night, but thought he stayed nice & wide all game to stretch the play and create room for Barkley and the like in the middle
Aye, thought Michael Cox had it spot on as well.

On the opposite flank, Gerard Deulofeu provided something unique: natural width. He spent much of the first half near the touchline and while his crossing was poor – the first drilled into the sidenetting, the second woefully overhit – his positioning stretched City. It caused Gaël Clichy positional problems and increased the gap in the channel between Clichy and Eliaquim Mangala, where Lukaku spent much of the first half.

Don't understand why he says we were fortunate to retake the lead. Why exactly?

Me neither, particularly when the very next sentence he points out we are adept at attacking - would have made more sense if he'd said we were lucky to maintain the lead when down to 10 men given our usual game managment and point out that we did something different in not chasing for a third!

Under pressure managers usually deflect blame.

Sorry RFUS, not sure I follow?

Just saying I thought he was less flattering than he usually is, and painted the game in a different light to reality. They didn't deserve anything out of it and usually Pellegrini would say so. But I think when managers are under pressure they generally talk tosh, and try and blame refs, external factors etc rather than say "I'm not doing my job well enough".

yep ,the boys a flying machine , they are definitely taking him off before muscle fatigue sets in, klopp are you listening.

He wasn't at his best last night, but defenders are very wary of him now so even if he doesn't have a great game he'll keep one or two defenders busy, opening up space for others.

Best winger we've had since as long as I can remember.

Ah, understand now! Can understand Pellegrini saying it although as you say he is usually a more honest/complimentary manager.

However think @mrb85 was referring to was Michael Cox's last paragraph which was
"Many sides would have settled for 1-0 but Everton continued to push forward deep into the second half. Getting caught out on a counterattack from an attacking set piece was a frustrating way to let City back into the game, and Everton were rather fortunate to retake the lead through Lukaku’s header. Martinez’s side are adept at attacking but their inability to manage games remains a major weakness."
which seemed an odd thing to write in the context of the game and his admitting we are good at attacking.
