Gerard Deulofeu

I just can't bring myself to criticise him for not tracking back when he was one of the main reasons why we scored 6 goals and played scintillating football, and have looked a miles better team on every single occasion he's been on the pitch this season than when he hasn't

Yeh he was brilliant yesterday, I'm not disputing that, he end product is improving every game and I love watching him play. All I'm saying to you is it's wrong to ignore the stuff he doesn't do because it can and will cost us eventually. Will it get me to ask for Naismith to start ahead? Christ no, I hate Naismith, however we do have to be careful with our right side as defensively it's vulnerable and better teams will exploit that.

Think that is the theory behind having two DMs though - provide the cover so both Deulofeu and Coleman can go on the attack.

It will leave holes but as Martinez recently said he doesn't really care that much about keeping a clean sheet as long as we win the game.

Well yeh, I'm more a fan of defense than offense so I lean more that way but the part about the DM's is correct IF it actually happens. Barry is brilliant at this but McCarthy isn't anywhere near as positionally disciplined to cover for Gerard/Coleman yet. Although I suspect this may be down to the manager wanting to evolve him into a box-to-box CM now and not the next Barry.

As you say McCarthy was tasked with being far more of a box to box yesterday rather than a holding player but that made us weaker down that side - but many have railed about why do we play two DMs at home versus a poor team so in a way Roberto was doing exactly what the majority have asked for.

Deulofeu is tracking back far more than he used to but it is unlikely ever going to be a big part of his game, if Roberto tried to force it he'd probably become as unhappy as Hazard is now with Mourinho. If we need a lot of cover in a match we can instead start/sub in Lennon. We can't afford to buy fully rounded mature players so the next best thing is to have a couple of players for each position with different talents and tweak the team as needed.

Can't believe I am watching the same player we had here on loan. I wasn't sure RM was going to re sign after he criticized certain parts of his game when he finished his loan. We all know what he can do going forward, but he has added that early ball to his armoury along with better tracking back and pressing like a madman at times.

Would love to see him be able to cut inside and use that left foot instead of the constant step over step over and head down to the end line.

Glad he added the early ball from the right top of the box because that has been dynamite this year.

Also glad he is still early 20something because all that current skill will only get better as his football mind matures.

2 goals and 7 assists in 565 minutes of football from the sexy little Spaniard so far!
If you want to put it in league form assist wise its 5 in 355 minutes (1 eevery 71 minutes)
If coutinho had got them figures then he would be on the shortlist for world player of the year and a new title of the little magician coutinho

What I think is being missed is that as somebody has said when we play the 2 defensive midfielders their job is to drop in and cover the winger. With that in mind as Martinez said he wants him to attack more then defend its Barry and McCarthy who should be covering him when he's caught up the pitch. In that respect its not his job to track back. Obviously he's expected to when he can but us Getting caught out isn't his fault, it's the DM's not performing their duty. Naismith playing there is what messes us up in that sense, he's to busy staying back to cover to cause the problems where we need him to

I really don't get people saying diving is part of the modern game. So what if other countries think it's acceptable. It's weak people like you that have allowed it into the game justifying it by saying others do it. I can't stop it happening but I won't ever condone it and even if it won us something that victory would forever be tainted for me. I'd want to know we could do it without cheating. Jesus Christ have a back bone, if you have morals then stand for them, don't just let the media tell you everyone is doing it so that makes it ok
Well said mate.he really does need to be told stay on his feet.its not acceptable at everton football club.he could have had a goal v arsenal and another sunday.all the abuse we used to give the other lot over the rat faced cannibal diving so we dont want to give anyone a stick to beat us with.win and win with style and class, the everton way:)

Really come on. His assists occured at crucial times in this game. Legend potential if he remains humble and focused on helping the team win. So happy for him and us atm.
